Middle School News

Year 7 to 9

Middle School

Well the term has finally come to an end, under the most unexpected of circumstances. We thought we were back and then we weren’t, we thought it would be a week, it has been a term and possibly we could still be in lockdown when we return to begin Term 4. Not easy conditions for anyone to comprehend, let alone deal with this 6th lockdown the way the EDSC College Community has.

I would firstly like to thank all staff, who from the very beginning of this lockdown have continued to provide stimulating lessons via  Microsoft Teams whilst juggling their home commitments and personal circumstances. Everyone has a different story of how they are affected by this pandemic, but no matter how troubled staff have been, they have made it one of their priorities to try and give you (students and parents) the most engaging learning tasks and activities, information, communication and care that they could. For this, I thank you all.

Secondly, students, parents and carers. You have been amazing. Resilience, Teamwork, Care and Compassion, Fairness and Excellence. All values you have displayed in spades throughout the term. Among all others the ‘Culture of Curiosity’ is strong and thriving with students continuing to engage in remote learning when it would be easy to switch off and give up. Well done and thank you for supporting the efforts of our staff throughout remote learning 6.0.

To everyone have a fantastic break and we hope that we are back in some, if not full capacity next term. However, before we get there, lets remember some of the brighter spots from the term that was lockdown 6.0. As a wise Year 12 student of mine posted recently “The question is not what you look at, but what you see..” Henry David Thoreau.

  • Big Freeze Day (On Site)
  • Year 7 Brainstorm Incursion (On Site)
  • Middle School Values Awards Released
  • Year 8 Assembly (Mr Bond's hair is cut by his daughter during assembly)
  • Year 9 Assembly (Mr Bond's daughter dyes his hair during assembly)
  • Year 7 Assembly (Mr Bond voted to jump in pool with makeup and a dress)
  • Year 7 Challenge Champions Commences (Kahoot and Cutest Pets so far)
  • Year 8 Cooking/Recipe Competition Commences
  • Year 9 Cooking Catch Ups on MS Teams Commences
  • Online PT Interviews

I think what Henry David Thoreau means is to continue to see the good, continue to see opportunity, continue to dream and believe even if what you are looking at isn’t great, it’s what you can see that counts.

1 to 1 Digital Learning Program 2022

In 2022 we will continue with our whole school 1 to 1 Digital Learning Program for all students.

The purchase of these devices is crucial to the learning program as students will access eBooks rather than an extensive number of expensive textbooks.

Details of the 1 to 1 Digital Learning Program for all students and important information regarding suitable devices are detailed in the attached policy.

**Please note that the JB Hi Fi Solutions portal is no longer open for the sale of devices. This service is not available for 2022 purchases.

Student Compass ID/Library/PTV  Cards

Please remind all students that they must carry their Student Compass ID/Library/PTV  Cards with them at all times.

ALL students must sign in/out with their card at the General Office when they are arriving late or leaving early for any reason. A reminder that Year 12 students are required to sign in/out at The John Landy Centre Compass Kiosk.

The cards are also used for any student photocopying that is done at school. The EDSC Student Compass ID/Library/PTV  is also the student PTV (Public Transport Victoria) cards. They are required to carry this card as student identification while travelling on public transport.

If a student loses their card, parents/guardians are able to re-order a replacement card via the Compass parent portal.
