Term 4 Update

As the last term for the year gets underway, it promises to be a very busy one for both students and teachers right up to the last school day – Friday 3 December for all College students. Lessons, homework, teaching and marking will continue up to the last day for Years 5 to 11. There is no such thing as winding down.

Remote learning will continue for all students in the first two weeks of Term 4. Year 12 will return to normal face-to-face classes on Monday 18 October but until then, Year 12 will participate in a program of online HSC workshops.

Years 6 and 11 will return to normal face-to-face classes on Monday 25 October and the remaining cohorts on Monday 1 November.

Year 9 will do their final online assessments next week. Year 12 will begin their HSC written examinations here at the College on Tuesday 9 November.

This term also sees Year 11 commencing the HSC course, including the first of a series of formal assessments for the 2022 HSC credential.

Teachers are currently marking Year 11 final online assessments and completing Preliminary course academic reports for Year 11 ready for posting online via the Sentral Parent Portal by the end of Week 3. Final year student academic reports for Years 5 to 10 will be completed and ready for posting online by the end of Week 8. There will be optional parent/teacher interviews conducted on Monday 6 December – booking details will be provided to parents/carers in coming weeks.

Teachers are also actively involved with the usual annual process of evaluation and planning of teaching and learning programs in preparation for next year.

There is also of course, the planning and preparation that goes into the College’s Annual Speech Night which will be held at the Sydney Olympic Park Quaycentre on Thursday 2 December, when Year 12 will also be ‘officially’ farewelled and presented with their awards. Year 12 will have their Graduation Mass and Dinner on Sunday 5 December.

These are just a few things happening this term.

The Year 9 Online Assessment Block

Just a reminder that Year 9 online assessments commence next week, Monday 11 October and conclude Friday 15 October. The assessments will involve scheduled timed tasks inclusive of reading, working, and uploading times or set assignments or project work to be completed and uploaded online over the Assessment Block period.

Assessment Block pre-task information for each course was issued to students in the week commencing Monday 13 September. Students are encouraged to seek clarification with their class teachers regarding the pre-task information prior to the commencement of the Assessment Block.

The Year 9 Online Assessment Block Timetable was emailed to students and their parents/carers along with the Online Assessment Rules for Years 7 to 10 Students at the end of last term. Both documents are also available on Canvas. Students are reminded to thoroughly familiarise themselves with this documentation, as well as the College’s Assessment Policy posted on Canvas early in first term of this year.

Ignorance of the College’s Assessment Policy or online assessment rules will not constitute a valid excuse and penalties will be incurred for breaches of rules, policy, and procedures.

In particular, in the event of absenteeism due to illness or misadventure during the online assessment block, parents/carers and students are reminded that a telephone call to the Year Coordinator, Mr Herro, must be made no less than 30 minutes before the scheduled start of the assessment. Where possible, an alternate task for the missed assessment will be arranged within the Assessment Block period. Immediately on the student’s return, a medical certificate for the illness or misadventure must be submitted to Mr Herro and the relevant Faculty Leader.

I wish all our Year 9 students well in their preparation and completion of these important assessments.
