Lunch Order Provider Update

Ormond Primary has decided to continue offering both lunch order services for the remainder of the year.

As of next week (beginning 21st October) lunch orders will be available on the following days.

  • Taste Galore will  be available Tuesday & Friday
  • Classroom Cuisine (online) will be available on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.

Icy Pole Treat Day

Icy pole day is having a costume change and returning in Term 4 with an exciting, new, higher quality product.

Student survey results showed a desire for ice-cream to be available on our menu, so this means that instead of weekly icy-poles, we will be offering  tropical icy-pole or ice-cream as an alternative twice per term.

The 2018 lunch order survey and 2019 trial of new lunch order provider is part of Ormond Primary School's review of its Healthy Eating Policy, to ensure we are meeting the Victorian Government’s Health & Physical Education Standards. Healthy eating and physical activity are associated with improved learning, better mood, behaviour and healthy growth. To promote the health of OPS students,  food supplied by the school aims to be consistent with these guidelines. OPS will therefore offer a treat day or two each term. As always, these events will contribute to the school fundraising.

Foundation News

Welcome back to Term 4. We hope you all had lovely and restful holidays!

At the end of Term 3, to enrich our inquiry learning about ‘living things’, the Foundation children visited the Cranbourne Gardens Education Program. The children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to learn about the needs of plants as living things and how they reproduce.

It was a wonderful stroll around the native gardens where our guide encouraged us to use our senses to discover the wonders of nature and the environment.

In mathematics, we will be focusing on sharing and place value. Students will also be exploring length and measuring and comparing things using informal measurement.

We have moved on from looking at individual sounds in literacy and moved into exploring diagraphs. Last week we looked at WH, this week we are looking at QU, followed by SW. The students are doing a wonderful job continuing their practice on the magic words and their take home books.

This term, in Inquiry we continue to inquire about ‘living things’ and what is needed for them to stay alive. We are busy learning about different animals and how to classify living animals.  We will then move onto plants and what they need to survive.

It’s always busy in term 4, we thank you for your ongoing assistance and support.

Year 5 News

The Year 5 students are currently planning and writing their leadership speeches. They will be presenting them in Week 5 so there is still plenty of time to prepare at school.

On Monday 21st October the students will be participating in a Space Virtual Reality Incursion. Each class will simultaneously blast off into space, piloting their research vessels around planets and moons, learning about the solar system.

Ormond Oscars Thursday 24th October. Information has been sent out via Compass. Please meet in the school hall at 6:00. We are looking forward to a fun and entertaining night.

Year 5 Sport has started again on Friday afternoons. Each house is competing against each other with the aim to be the champions of the term. Sports to be played correlate with the Year 6 interschool sports, Rounders, Cricket, Lawn Bowls and Softball.

Year Six hoodies, polo’s and sports shirts are currently being organized in preparation for 2020. Children have tried on sample sizes and the teachers have recorded these. If you have any questions, please speak to your child’s teacher.

Glen Eira Walk to School Competition

Ormond PS has joined the hundreds of primary schools across Victoria for a fun month of walking, riding and scooting to and from school. By participating, we have a chance to win some great prizes!

In 2019, we will be encouraging our entire school to walk, ride and scoot to school. If your child can’t walk, ride or scoot to school, there are heaps of ways they can still get involved in the fun.

Students received an Active Schools walking ticket at the start of Walk to School 2019. Each time students walk, ride or scoot to school, their parent/guardian will need to initial one of 10 stars. Once all 10 stars have been initialled, students can submit their ticket to the school office to be entered into the competition to win a Fitbit (one per participating school). Students will receive a new ticket to keep on walking, riding or scooting to school throughout October. The more they walk, ride and scoot to school, the more times they can enter the competition. If students are driven to school, they can still enter the competition by parking a few blocks away and walking, riding or scooting to class. Every little bit counts!

Clarification - Please make sure you compete 10 full days, 1 star represents to and from school. Completed tickets are to be placed in the box located outside the Art Room for Miss Milliken.

Get walking, riding or scooting to school this October and help your school in their attempt to win the trophy.
