Principal's Report

From the Principal...

Welcome Back

Regardless of the fact that we are already mid week two of Term 4, I wanted to wish you all a very warm welcome back. We are anticipating a fabulous end to the year with many significant events, learning opportunities, transition and celebrations.

Planning for 2020

We are currently looking at our staffing profile and grade structure for 2020. At this stage – we are anticipating 18 classes across the school, which thankfully will provide one additional space for decanting students during our building works.

If you are aware that your child/children (excluding current Yr 6 students) will not be attending Ormond PS next year, please inform the office in writing as soon as possible. Thank you to those families who have already done so.

Buildings and Grounds

What began as a slow start to proceedings, has rapidly changed as early as today. The school will notice more activity heading in to next week and beyond. The commencement of demolition to classroom walls was halted until our main IT equipment/server was relocated to ensure it was not affected by dust or air-born particles. In saying that, the absence of workers and power tools in week one meant that students were able to ease in to Term 4 with less disruptions. The Year 2 class currently housed in our library is a prime example of resilience and flexibility. We are very grateful to Sally Berryman and the wider community for their patience and understanding at this time.

As materials from the demolition are being removed from the school, the junior playground will be temporarily unavailable as a safety precaution.

Term 4 Hats and Sunsmart Steps

Active outdoor play throughout the year is important for health and development. Whenever you are outside, make sure the whole family is protected, including the adults, by using these five sun smart steps, even if it is cool and cloudy.

  1. Slip on protective clothing
  2. Slop on SPF30 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water resistant sunscreen
  3. Slap on a hat (compulsory now at school)
  4. Seek Shade
  5. Slide on sunglasses

Bike Safety

Again – a number of concerned neighbours have highlighted unsafe bike activity from students at our school. I seek support from families to discuss with your children the consequences associated with this type of behaviour. Reckless riding with little attention paid to traffic safety has staff and the wider community concerned.

2020 Foundation Transition Program

As a part of the next transition session on Thursday 17th October, the will be a free additional Balanced Box session for new parents to the school community to attend while the children are off enjoying their activities.  Please see the attached flyer for further details.

Lunch Order Provider Update

Ormond Primary has decided to continue offering both lunch order services for the remainder of the year.

As of next week (beginning 21st October) lunch orders will be available on the following days.

  • Taste Galore will  be available Tuesday & Friday
  • Classroom Cuisine (online) will be available on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.

Student Achievments

Congratulations to Max M who received a White-Yellow belt in Junior Judo recently.

This is no easy task and requires a great deal of practice.  The grade is awarded by the presentation of a coloured Judo belt. Junior Judo belts are in varying colours signifying age and expertise. Well done Max!

Well done Lachie T who as recently earned his Grey Wolf badge as a part of the 1st McKinnon Scout Troop. The Grey Wolf Award. The Grey Wolf Award is the highest achievement for a cub, and one that not all cubs will be able to obtain. To attain this top award in each of the five Sections in Scouts reflects initiative in tackling this challenge, sustained effort over many months and years plus self-discipline, teamwork and leadership.
