SCSA Sports Leaders Breakfast

On the morning of 19/2, the Senior Sports Committee leaders Emily Telley, Christine Nabalarua, Leeah Nguyen and Charlene Nheu, were invited to a breakfast at MSAC along all other schools involved in SCSA competitions to launch the SCSA Sporting Competition for 2020. The day started at 7:30am where we were greeted by Table Tennis 3 time Olympian and Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist, Melissa Tapper. We had an opportunity to watch her do some table tennis drills which was awesome! As well as this, one of our leaders, Emily, was able to play some table tennis with her.

She spoke to us about her journey and learning to do everyday activities with one arm due to nerve damage she sustained as a child. Melissa was able to look past her physical limitation and continue to demonstrate constant persistence, determination, and is truly an inspiration to all. She was the first Australian athlete ever to qualify for both the Paralympics and able bodied Olympics, and will be heading to Tokyo to once again represent Australia.

It was lovely to sit-down and have breakfast with all the students from various schools. Overall this day was an experience to remember, and was a great way to kick off the SCSA year! Special thanks to Mr Brodie for accompanying us.

Cable Park Excursion VCE Sport and Recreation

On Thursday the 13th of February, the Year 11 and 12 Sport and Recreation class went on an excursion to Cable Park which is located beside Patterson River in Bangholme. The aim of the excursion was to expand our knowledge on how the organisation uses OH&S to keep a safe workplace for employees, and for participants in the activity. It was a sunny day, which was ideal for an outside obstacle course. Everyone was extremely excited to participate in the activity which is a recreational activity for the general public.. Before we went on the equipment, the lifeguards gave us a debriefing about how to use the equipment safely and what to do in case of an emergency. The students were told some real life examples of what can happen if the safety of participants isn’t properly considered.  We then went on the equipment and completed the course that included climbing up stairs, sliding down a massive slide, and racing against friends to get over the obstacles. It was an amazing experience and everybody had a great time! We all left cable park with a better understanding of risk assessment and the importance of workplace safety and important OHS procedures.
