Students of Fashion and Textiles Make a Great Start
The year has begun well for our eager designers and makers. The Year 7 and 8 students have already completed their first project – a very useful scrunchie made from the school uniform fabric. They can wear this with the school uniform. In the coming weeks, they will be learning some hand embroidery stitches so they can make and decorate a pincushion and a hand made wallet.
The Year 9 students have been learning how to use the over lock machines and are now ready to start making their boxer shorts. The designs coming from the Year 9 Fashion Design class are truly amazing; our students have great drawing and design skills!
The Year 10 Fashion Workshop students have been exploring the world of fashion design and are on the brink of designing the Botanical Fantastical party dresses which they will be constructing soon.
The VET students are also on their way, with the Year 11 students having completed the Work safely module and are now in the process of learning how to use various machines, including the industrial machines. The Year 12 students are exploring fibres and fabrics and are about to embark on creating their own fabrics through weaving and felting.
In all, it is wonderful to see the skill development and creativity of our students. Whilst doing classes such as Textiles and Design Materials, the students are refining their fine motor skills, improving hand eye coordination, developing skills in drawing and designing, and building on problem solving abilities that will carry them for the rest of their lives and there is nothing like the satisfaction and pride of saying ‘I made it myself!’
