Toddler 2
Welcoming New Families: We would love to welcome Amber and Austin this month into the toddler room! We are enjoying getting to know you both, and hope for lots of laughs and fun in the weeks/months to come.
What did we celebrate?
This month we enjoyed celebrating lots of fun days filled with activities for the children and families to enjoy.
Tuesday 1st October – Special person’s day: We celebrated with an afternoon tea spread to show how amazing they all are to us. The children made cake pop’s and they seemed to really enjoy cooking. It was a fun experience for them to be involved in. Each room made their own treats that was spread across the center for all children and their special people to enjoy.
Monday 21st - Friday 25th October – Diwali: Diwali is the Hindi festival of lights. The children spent the week learning about a new culture and experiencing new activities. The toddlers participated in Rangoli, which is a form of art that is created with colored sand. The toddlers helped to make the colored sand and then created artwork of their own. The toddlers also had the opportunity to have henna artwork on their hands which they really enjoyed. We finished the week
with a cooking lesson making roti, which is a round flat bread traditional to the Indian subcontinent. Cooking is a big interest for the toddlers and they are really engaged with it!
Monday 21st – Sunday 27th October – Children’s Week: Children’s Week is a national celebration of children’s rights and talents. We were lucky enough to have ‘Hey Dee Ho’ come visit us. There was singing, dancing and puppets that most of the children participated in. They were so engaged with his performances and everyone had a smile on their face. We also had some face paint for the room. The children chose a painting and waited so patiently for their turn. They enjoyed looking at their reflection in the mirror and showing their faces to all their friends.
Thursday 31st October – Halloween: On this day the children are encouraged to wear a dress up to childcare. We have activities for the children to create fun and spooky artwork to take home. We also did face painting for the children.
Our Focus: This month in the toddler room we have been focusing on our self-help skills and independence. The room had a bit of a makeover with new toys, play spaces and activities added. The children have been working hard to ensure we look after everything and respect our environment. They have done really well! A self-help shelf was added, so the children have access to their own bowls, cutlery, face washes, wipes, tissues and glasses which they
can get water from a new water dispenser. They have been so interested in this area, and love to show their educators proudly when they dispense their own water. The children also have been applying sunscreen on themselves in the mirror, and have enjoyed showing each other how well they can do it.
What we can expect next month: Overall October has been a big success in the toddler room. Educators will continue to support the children as they continue their ongoing learning every day at childcare. We are aiming to implement a weekly cooking session for the children to further advocate for their interests, which I think will be really fun filled and positive experiences.
Thank you
