Head of Middle School Report

Today we held the official opening of the PAC and I was struck by something that Peter Lawrence CEO of the Anglican Schools Commission mentioned in his address. He said that new building and facilities are great, but the real strength of a school are its people. We do have good people in the Middle School and I am proud that we have teachers and students who are striving to be the best that they can be.
On the last Thursday of Term 3 we held our first Middle School Social. The smiling faces and packed dancefloor was evidence of how much fun was had on the night. Of the 100 students who attended, three lucky students each received a $50 voucher to Menthas clothes store. It is hard to single anyone out as it was a fantastic team effort from the Year 8 leaders and Middle School teachers to make the night run so successfully.
Currently the Middle School is in the process of electing our 2020 leaders. We have had an assembly on leadership, current Year 7 students have been filling out their house leader nomination forms and next Monday 21st October those students will be presenting a speech to their respective houses. The chosen leaders will then head to Albury in Week 5 this term for GRIP training, to help develop their leadership skills.
We have some orientation days this term to help transition our students smoothly into next year. The grade 6 students will be involved in sessions where they become Year 7’s for a double lesson, experiencing a different classroom with a different teacher. Also on the 3rd of December we have a whole school orientation day where each year level moves up into their 2020 classes.
Special mention to Makayla Pestrucci and Lacey Eddy who performed a duet from the upcoming production at the opening of the PAC, in front of the whole school and many special guests including Bishop John.
I encourage everyone involved in the Middle School to try their best and finish the year off strongly.
