2020 Expression of Interest forms

It should be completed and returned by the 13th May.

This can be collected from the college general office; your student can collect it for you.

In the coming days your primary school will also issue a Year 6 to 7 Placement Form, which you need to complete and return to the primary school.

Info - Consent for Events

Any event (excursion or sports day) that a student is involved in requires online parental consent through Compass.

There are a number of sports days approaching and all students involved need consent for them to be able to leave the school grounds and attend the day.

Email reminders are sent to all parents of those students involved and your assistance with providing consent is greatly appreciated.

It is your child that misses out if consent is not received.

Science in Europe Information Evening

A ‘Science in Europe’ information evening will be held on Thursday 13th June, at 6:00 pm, in the College Hall for parents and students currently in year 9 or 10 interested in attending in 2020.

Plans are underway with regards to a trip for 20 students to attend a 14 day tour to Europe, exploring how science has impacted our world in the past, in the present and how it will play a part in the future.

At this stage, we are hoping to travel in SEPTEMBER, 2020. The dates are yet to be finalised, however, we are hopeful of a departure in mid-September, 2020. The study tour will be booked through Latitude Educational Tours.

The evening will provide parents and students an outline of the aims of the tour, draft itinerary, approximate costs involved, payment plan details and application criteria.

Year 9 2020 semester subject selections – for current year 8 students

There will be a Year 9 2020 Information session for all current Year 8 students on Tuesday 28th May, 2019. Students will begin the selection process for their 2020 programs very soon.

Parents and students can access both the Year 9 Handbook and the information presented to the students, on compass at https://brightonsc-vic.compass.education/Communicate/SchoolDocumentation.aspx/  Junior School --> Year 9. Parents are encouraged to read through the handbook with their child, as well as the information presented to the students. Parents will then be in a better position to advise and support, their child through the decision-making process.

To select Year 9 electives, students will be required to log into the following portal:

www.selectmysubjects.com.au/ student using their Compass login username and password.

This will be available to students as of the week beginning Monday 15th July.

Please note that Monday 29th July is the final date by which all preferences must to be submitted before the web preferences portal is closed.

The elective receipt must be printed, signed by both parent(s) and student, and handed in to the Junior School Office. Elective choices will not be registered unless the sheet has been handed in.

Young Carers

A Young Carers program facilitated by Little Dreamers is meeting at lunchtime today in N205. If you identify as a person caring for a parent or sibling with a chronic illness, mental illness, disability or drug/alcohol addiction come along and see how you can be supported during this time.

Little Dreamers is a non-for-profit organisation founded by BSC alumni Maddie Buchner; Little Dreamers aims to create a community where every Young Carer feels supported, valued and empowered through short term and long term programs.

Give us your old phones!

There will be a box out the front of the library for collecting old phones that families would like to recycle. Phones contain coltan, a type of metal, and this can be reused if the phones are recycled. We will donate these phones to Zoos Victoria to ensure the coltan in them will be reused and to raise funds for an organisation protecting gorillas in Africa. More information can be found at: https://www.zoo.org.au/news/theyre-calling-on-you

Thanks,

The Environment Team.
