Lost Property

There are lots of school windcheaters piling up in our lost property box. Parents are welcome to come in and take home windcheaters that are unnamed.  Please check that your child’s school jumpers and hats are clearly named.

Year P-6 – 'The Barber of Seville' Victorian Schools Tour

Year P-6 students will attend the performance 'The Barber of Seville'  next Tuesday afternoon 18th June.  Permission notes have been sent home with students, please check that your child's note has been returned.

Rossini’s 'The Barber of Seville' is one of the most popular operas ever written and it will enthral school students of all ages, complete with beautiful costumes and engaging scenery.  The performance tells the story of how a serious case of love at first sight is a big problem for Count Almaviva. Enter the resourceful barber named Figaro, who cleverly solves everyone’s problems - for a price.

Secret letters, cunning disguises and all sort of confusions will delight young audiences as the boy gets the girl and Figaro gets paid!

Parent/Teacher Interviews

Parent Teacher Interviews will be held after school on Wednesday 26th June, the last Wednesday in the term.  We look forward to meeting with our families and sharing information about your child.  Please place your name on the board in the Green Building indicating your preferred interview time slot.   

Reading Rewards

All units are planning their Reading Rewards for Term 2.  Please check that your child's home reading practice is signed off each day.  We value the  support you give your child in their reading at home.

Outside School Hours Care (OSHC)

Reminder that OSHC will be finishing at the earlier time of 5pm on the last day of term.  Cheryll Hodge is our school’s OSHC coordinator and can be contacted on 0428 258035 if you have any queries.

Primary Uniform Jacket

Primary students will be  able to purchase a polar fleece lined Jacket with a water repellent microfibre outer shell.  It has elastic cuffs and an internal zip pocket.  It is available in size 4 – 16 and will have the school logo embroidered on it. Cost will be $40.00 per jacket.  An order has been placed and should be here within two weeks.

Year 4-6 Persuasive Debating Report

As a part of their Persuasive Writing lesson, the Year 4-6  students from Mrs. Grimmer and Miss Lyell’s Literacy groups participated in a formal debate. The students worked extremely hard to prepare detailed and persuasive arguments in their debating groups. The students had a fantastic time arguing various topics such as space exploration, the banning of NAPLAN and the concept of a three day weekend.  All of the students demonstrated a tremendous amount of teamwork and put 100%  effort into their debating.

Green Building Weekly Assemblies

Year 3-4 assemblies are held most Fridays in the Green Building at 2.45pm  where Year P-3 students will receive weekly awards.  All families are welcome to attend.  Congratulations to last Friday's Award winners!

Eisteddfod Performances

The Primary Eisteddfod School Dance Performances will be held next Wednesday 19th June, beginning at 10am.  Permission notes have been sent home with students.  Please check that your child's note has been returned.

All our Year P-3 students will be participating.  The Year P-2 students will be in the first section and the Year 3 students will be in the second section. 

The Year 4-6 students have been given the choice to participate this year and those choosing to perform will be in either the second or third section.  

Year 4-6 Winter Sports Report

‘Super sport’ The Year 4-6 students have been trying  all the winter sports this term. Over the last three weeks they have concentrated on netball skills which ended in a game.

Year 3-4 Ballarat Camp

The Year 3-4 Ballarat Camp will be held from 31st July – 2nd August. 

The total cost of the camp is expected to be paid by the end of this term, Friday 28th June. 

Merbein District Inter-School Sports Day Report

Merbein P-10 Year 5-6 played against Our Ladies and The Lake in very cold conditions.  Our Football, Netball and Hockey teams won their games and will go on to play in the Division round at the end of the month.  Our Soccer players also improved with every game.  Well done to all students for giving it their best shot and showing great sportsmanship.

Library News

Please ensure your child returns their books each week and brings a waterproof Library Bag for their Library books on the following days.

The end of term is near.    Overdue notices have been sent home.  Please check for school library books at home and have them returned.

Merbein Community Bank School Student Banking Program

If you wish your child to participate in this program, please send your child’s bankbook along to the Green Building Office every Thursday morning. The Bank will collect and process your child’s banking and then drop the bank book back to school before the end of the school day.

No Play After School

A reminder to students and families that once the bell goes for dismissal at the end of the day, students need to make their way directly home or to the bus shelter.  Whilst we do have staff on duty after school, they are not supervising playgrounds and play areas,  so please ensure your child does not use these areas after school.
