Mid Year Examinations

The Mid-Year Examinations begin in Week 7 (31 May – 4 June) for Years 7-11.

A copy of the full Mid-Year Examination Timetable is attached for parents and guardians. Students will have the opportunity to read through the examination timetable with their mentor and ask questions. It important that students review their timetable carefully and record their exams in their record book.

I encourage parents to read the exam timetable with your son or daughter and make note of how each day will run:

  • exam times
  • exam venues for each subject
  • when students have been allocated time for study or normal classes
  • Year 7-10 how to prepare for the REACH English, Maths and Science tests.

It will be a full assessment week and note not every day will start with Mentor meetings.

I have attached a copy of the Student Examination Guide 2021 for parents to familiarise themselves with The Hamilton and Alexandra College expectations for all students.

Students in Year 10 and 11 will have the option to attend private study if they do not have an exam or seek permission to work from home. Miss Waldron will send permission forms home this week and these need to be signed by parents/guardians.

Students in Year 7-9 will have normal classes when there is not an exam scheduled. If an exam finishes before the bell for recess or lunch, students will be required to return to normal classes. It is therefore important that students have correct books, laptop, and study materials with them each day.

If you child has an exam timetable clash or is absent during the exam period, please contact the school as soon as possible.

For example:

Examinations are an opportunity to show the teacher what you know about the subject. We look forward to celebrating your learning progress and academic success.

VCE – General Achievement Test (GAT) Preparation

All Year 10, 11 and 12 students who are studying a Unit 3&4 subject attended a GAT Preparation Session on Monday this week. This session provided important information regarding the format and rules of the GAT and students received valuable advice as how to approach each section of the paper.

Each student received their GAT timetable and a copy of the GAT brochure that contains a summary of why the GAT is important, the VCAA rules and approved materials that can be brought into the GAT.

This is the link to an electronic copy on the VCAA website: Pages - General Achievement Test (GAT) (vcaa.vic.edu.au)

Several past GAT papers have been posted onto Teams, it is highly recommended that students complete an entire paper each week for the next three weeks. English teachers will be able to provide feedback on any practice written tasks submitted.

A follow up Preparation Session will be held on Friday 4 June at 8.50am in the Auditorium.

The GAT will be held on Wednesday 9 June, at 10am in the Tim Murray Room.

If you have any questions about the upcoming GAT, please do not hesitate to make contact.
