How to recycle things that don’t go in the co-mingled recycling bin

Do the SCRUNCH test! If the plastic CAN be scrunched up (into a ball), it can be placed in a REDcycle Program drop off bin. If it CAN’T be scrunched, it should be recycled at home via kerbside collection.

CLING WRAP - IS NOT RECYCLABLE, IT MUST GO IN LANDFILL.

Toothpaste tubes and caps, manual toothbrushes, electric toothbrush heads, toothbrush and toothpaste tube plastic packaging, floss containers.

Foil, for example:

  • Chocolate egg wrappers 
  • Aluminum foil

Must have no food stuck to it. 

If it has food scraps - like cheese - put it into landfill.

Make into a ball if you have enough to make a tennis size ball, if not put foil scraps into like material, like a used soft drink can

Plastic bottles 

Plastic bottles - no food residue - wash out

No bottle tops - remove and recycle at St Joe’s

Remember only milk, water and soft drink bottle tops - all other tops go into landfill.  

Glass bottles, jars

  • beer bottles

Metal tops need to be removed and can be recycled by putting into a tin can. Crimp the can so the lids don’t fall out and place in the recycle bin.

Paper / Cardboard

  • Newspapers & phone books
  • Magazines & junk mail   
  • Envelopes (including plastic windows)
  • Paper   
  • Flattened cardboard   
  • Pizza boxes (small amounts of grease only. If grease has soaked through the cardboard, please place the bottom in the rubbish and top in the recycling bin)
  • Breakfast cereal boxes 
  • Milk and juice cartons

Metals

  • Soft drink cans
