Procedural Writing
During writing lessons, we learned about writing procedures. Procedures tell us how to make or do something such as: How To Make A Paper Plane or a recipe.
A procedure has a title and subheadings of:
A goal; explaining what you will have achieved at the end
Equipment Needed and/or Ingredients
Method or Steps
Recently we wrote a procedure for making fruit salad, after writing the procedure the children enjoyed following their procedure step by step. The children were put into groups and each group had a different job to do. Some of our groups had to peel and chop bananas or chop strawberries. Other groups had to peel and segment mandarins, chop kiwis, pluck grapes or help with the peaches and pineapple tins.
After following our procedure, JLC thoroughly enjoyed eating their fruit salad.
