Message from the Principal

First Eucharist and Junior Chess Tournament

Recently some of our children celebrated the Sacrament of their First Eucharist. This Sacrament is a special occasion where the children receive the Eucharist or Communion (the body of Christ) for the first time. The Eucharist is the Greek word for thanksgiving and as Catholics, we believe that through the Holy Communion we are united with Jesus Christ in a special way.

Thank you to Mr. Brophy for preparing the children and to Mrs. Maher our Religious Education Leader in organising the Mass.

Last week our Junior students had an opportunity to participate in our first Junior Chess Tournament for the year. For some of our Juniors, it was their very first tournament ever. The students played 7 games of chess for the day which is a big effort for Junior children and telling from the smiles on their little faces, they had a great day!

Their results were just as impressive with our school placing 9th out of 17 schools with our highest-ranked student Lakyn (Year 1) placing 47 out of 60 students. We look forward to our next Chess Tournament which is a Primary Open event on Tuesday 8th June.

While Chess Tournaments are a wonderful learning opportunity for our students, it is also an opportunity to promote our school and to fundraise in the form of sales at our Tuckinn. Our Tuckinn is very popular amongst the visitors to our school. On the day we sold $199.70 in products. Thank you to those who purchased and prepared products as well as to those who helped serve on the day.

Please refer to the attached edition of the Siena Snapshot Newsletter which features our school. Firstly, we are featured in regards to when our MLC students visited Siena to participate in their ASPIRE Program working collaboratively with Year 8 student mentors involving STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) activities.

Our school is also mentioned in regards to a current Year 12 Student Leader of Siena (Isabella Boussioutas) who previously attended our school recalling her time at St Bridget's with such fondness. It is wonderful to see one of our feeder secondary schools demonstrating support for us.

Just a reminder that this Wednesday 26th May is a School Closure Day, as the staff and I are attending a Professional Development Day on Religious Education at St Mary Magdalen's in Chadstone.

Kind regards
