World Vision Sponsor Social Service Day Thank You!

Yesterday, Wednesday 26th of May, we held a fundraising day for John, our World Vision sponsor child and raised $447.20.

Thanks to everyone who took part!

Students learned that John lives in Lower Yatta, Kenya, has 3 brothers and 2 sisters, is 15 and in grade 9, where his favourite subject is Mathematics, who enjoys a game of ‘hide and seek’ and helps out at home by gathering firewood.

Students talked about how grateful they are to be able to sponsor John and different grades wrote him a letter.

Many students had questions.

Here are some of the letters.

Dear John,

Hello from Grade 1/2C at Boroondara Park PS.

We have just been watching your video and seeing how you wash your dishes.

We have some other questions to ask you.

1. What is your favourite colour?

2. What is the weather like in Kenya, as it looks really hot and dry there?

3. What type of house do you and your family live in, can you tell us about your bedroom?4. What is your favourite food and how do you get your ingredients? Do you shop at a supermarket?

5. What is the name of your high school? Why do you like Mathematics so much?

6. What are the names of your parents, brothers and sisters?

7. How do you get around? For example. walk, bike, bus, car?

8. How do you look after your environment, do you recycle or compost much?

We are a grade 1 and 2 class, who have been learning SO HARD!

We would like to share that in Mathematics, we have been learning about adding numbers, telling time, and graphing. It's been interesting because our graphs have been made from the food packaging we have been bringing.

We now know that we need to reduce the amount of waste we bring to help our environment, and our country Australia clean.

We hope you can come and visit our country one day.

From your sponsor school friends,

1/2C

Dear John,

We are from Boroondara Park Primary School, in Grade 1. There are 20 boys and girls in our class and we are 6 and 7 years old. We like doing maths, writing and reading. We also do sport and at the moment we are learning to throw a ball underarm. Last week we did a concert. We learned how to juggle scarves and we performed on the stage in costumes for our families. It was a lot of fun.

We are wondering if you have a favourite color, number and animal? If so, please let us know what they are.

From 1JT

Dear John,

Today, our school dressed up in your school colours and the colours of the Kenyan flag. We are very grateful that you are our sponsor child.

Our Class is 3RO, there are 13 girls and 13 boys, we are 8 and 9 years old, and we are all in grade 3. Our school colours are red and navy blue, and did you know our school is in Balwyn North, Australia?

Some of our favourite things to do are make crafts, play sports like soccer, we play with Lego, go swimming, and play cricket.

We eat lots of different foods here because people from all around the world live here.

At the moment, we are learning about maps of different places, learning to take care of the world and some of Australia’s endangered animals.

Like you, we all like Mathematics too!

Can we please ask you some questions? What school do you go to? What is it like in Kenya? What is your favourite animal?
