Pottery Perfection

Last week the Pre-Primary class at Dunsborough had the pleasure of a special visit from Busselton potter, Sally May Mills.

"Sally shared her experience with clay as part of our investigations in Science into the properties of different materials. Students saw clay in different stages and got their hands dirty with two types of clay, making pinch pots and other creations. It was a beautiful expression of connecting with our greater community to learn together", said Mrs Mullender.

Mrs Mullender sent these few photos through.  It looks amazing!

Woodwork Wonders

Mr Taylor's Year 12 students have been finalising some work recently, and we are blessed to have a few items on display in the front office. Here's Maddie with her hall table, which she has made for her next door neighbour. It's magnificent.

Also on display is a similarly brilliant piece by Corey. Stop by and see them today!

Book Week 2021- Busselton

We have recently concluded with Book Week 2021, and as well as Primary students at Busselton having access to a wonderful Book Fair in the library and book readings by special guests throughout the week, the characters themselves came to life just over a week ago.

Mrs Blake has crafted an amazing entrance to the fair this year, and once students make their way through the rocket, have been able to peruse a huge array of books. Thanks, Mrs Blake! We are thankful for you.

To conclude the week, the creative efforts of parents and students was on display, with the book character parade.

Some absolutely amazing costumes were seen and we are always extremely grateful for the work put in by families to make the event such a success.

Our Kindy students had their character parade the day before, and during lunch time, special guest readers had the Primary students hooked on books!

Thanks for everyone's part in making this week such a success.

Book Week - Dunsborough

Dunsborough students also took part in Book week, and along with the fair and parade, also had the blessing of an author visit.  Gabriel Evans inspired the making of story boards with the Year 3 to Year 6 students.

A fantastic celebration of literacy that everyone got to enjoy.

University Visit

Connecting our students in with opportunities after school is important to us, and last week, representatives from some of the major Universities hit Busselton to chat with our Year 11 and Year 12 students.

We are grateful for these men and women who made the time to help our senior students navigate what lies beyond the classroom.

Secondary Athletics

The Secondary Athletics Carnival recently was held at the Bunbury Athletics Arena. Capably led by our amazing Mrs Haagensen, the event went off without a hitch.

The results were:

HOUSE POINTS:

361 Judah

410 Reuben

415 Naphtali

466 Benjamin

Well done, to the individual students who excelled, and a special thanks to the parent volunteers who stepped in to help make it all happen.

Service and Leadership

The Service and Leadership Council (SLC), held their first official meeting for the year. It was a bumper event with a guest speaker, and fabulous platters of eats provided by Mrs Wright. Angela Griffin, from the City of Busselton, spoke about the opportunities for leadership and service offered by the City through the Shift Youth Crew program. It would be good to see our students getting involved with this very worthwhile program. If you need more information, please speak to Mr van der Tang. Further details are also available on the City's website at https://www.busselton.wa.gov.au/.../shift-youth-crew.aspx

Book Week in Dunsborough

Six students, Amber Dortlandt-Chandler, Eve Burke, Emma Lack, Emily Bartley, Grace Lavington and Ella Clark helped with the Book Fair at the Dunsborough campus. The students selected their favourite children's books and read them to a range of classes. All who participated enjoyed sharing their love of reading with the younger students. A unique part of the experience was being able to experience the beauty of Dunsborough's "outdoor classroom", especially because the weather was so beautiful!

Thanks for the report Mr van der Tang!

Dancing Line-up

When it is Friday Fitness at the Busselton Campus, lots of different things can happen - and last week was Line Dancing with Mr Cameron.

Well done, Mr Cam. You are a legend! (If you visit our Facebook page there's video evidence of his moves!)

Masquerade!

On Friday night, the inaugural Masquerade Ball unfolded, with students from Years 7-10 filling the gymnasium for a night of fun and friendship.

Horizontal Bungee, a Bucking Bull, giant games of Battleships and Jenga, table tennis and dancing, through to fairy floss, a pizza party, guessing games and more ... there was something for everyone.

Mrs Kayla Black and Mr van der Tang put in a huge amount of work to bring the night together, and we are so grateful for them and the team of teachers and students who helped make it happen.
