From the Principal

“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character that is the true purpose of education." - Martin Luther King
The Hamilton and Alexandra College thrived in Term Two despite the challenges of another circuit breaker lockdown. We are fortunate to enjoy a strong educational culture that values learning and places student wellbeing at the heart of our mission. From ELC right through to Year 12, our firm appreciation for the College values of respect, gratitude, compassion, resilience and optimism holds us in good stead. My thanks to our dedicated staff team for another fine term’s work. Sadly, two colleagues say goodbye. I wish to thank and acknowledge Riana Beardsell and Nadine Stewart for their important contribution over several years to the College Cafeteria and the ELC and after school care program.
On Monday 5 July, all things being equal, our fourth Year 10 expedition will depart to Central Australia. This wonderful 13 day trip provides all students with an opportunity to learn about country, discover their nation’s heritage and reflect on their own identities. Furthermore, it offers an incredible chance for ‘direct experience’ where the problem solving, creativity and collaborations skills taught at school suddenly come to prominence as boys and girls face different real-life challenges and obstacles. In anticipation, I thank the staff on this trip for making it happen: Mr Leigh Alexander, Mrs Lou Williams, Mr Ben Singh and Ms Georgina Hodge plus the very experienced Auscamp staff.
I wish all families a restful and enjoyable mid-year break and look forward to your safe return on Tuesday 13 July 2021.
