Principal's Report
Mid-term brings challenges, hopes and best performances and the lives of students and staff at school continue to be busy. We encourage all students to be involved in a range of offerings which are provided to them so that their experiences of school are memorable and meaningful. We also remind students that Respect is a key value we uphold as a community which manifests as positive behaviours in and out of the classroom.
NAPLAN
We are mid-way through NAPLAN which is a test of student achievement in one moment in time. The information schools receive complements their other achievement measures and provides an extra lens from which to support student learning. By the end of next week tests will be completed and results will be given to us in August. There will be time for discussion and reflection about these results and to reinforce and clarify what students require in Year 7 and Year 9.
Education Week
Our inaugural week of fun lunchtime activities begins on Monday 24th of May and ends on Friday 28th of May. At school during this week, the theme of Building Communities will be spotlighted every lunchtime with a range of offerings for student participation. I am really looking forward to seeing all activities and particularly staff and students in friendly competition, engaging their physical prowess and critical thinking skills with a staff- student volley ball game and a staff student debate. The Education Week activities will be posted on Compass next week and I encourage student participation as contributors or as audience members.
High Ability Certificates
I was honoured to meet with students in the High Ability program and to discuss their experiences of the course which is run by the Department of Education and facilitated by our staff. I also presented them with their certificates for the completion of the program. It was a fantastic occasion of recognition and I thank all students and Ritu Arora, the High Abilities co-ordinator for her continued work to ensure that the program runs smoothly and to the staff facilitators who accompany the students in the program.
Student success
From a proud mum comes this success story. Bella and one of her horses represented ESC a couple of weeks ago at the Interschool State Titles. They were the 110 cm class Champions, winning 2 of the classes and a second in the other class. Bashboy also won the best performed OTT (off the track) horse out of all the show jumping horses.
Well done Bella. Wishing you continued success with your sport.
