Science

Congratulations again to our Year 10 students who won the Rotary Science Challenge in March. Thanks to those students who participated and represented Mater Dei so well.

We are just finishing our first topics of term two in junior classes at the moment. Year 7 just completed a topic on Mixtures and Separation. Year 8 were looking at Body Systems.

Year 9 were studying Tectonic Plates and Year 10 completed the first of two chemistry topics this year. Formative quizzes have been completed prior to assessments this term and results are available on Canvas. Summative assessment results should be available in the next few weeks.

Our year 11 students are working on or in some classes just about to start their Science Depth Studies. Depth Studies allow for the further development of one or more concepts found within or inspired by the syllabus and results go towards final assessment marks.

Year 12 students have assignments and practical activities to complete throughout this term in all their Science subjects. They will then start to prepare for Trial Exams next term.

We will be conducting an excursion to Sydney for our Year 12 Biology and Physics students in June. Students will have the opportunity to go to Taronga Zoo, Museum of Infectious Disease, ANSTO and Sydney University. More details will follow.
