Year 8 Boys

Yarra Group Football

Congratulations and well done to the 39 boys that played in the interschool football competition on, Wednesday 13 May.

We fielded two teams with the maroon team winning each of their 3 games on the day by over 100 points, and every player managing to score a goal.

The yellow team were only beaten by the maroon team, and went on to beat Lilydale Heights and Upper Yarra comfortably.

The maroon team will now play in the Eastern Region competition later this term.

Junior Girls Football

The Lilydale High School female footballers enjoyed a day of competition altogether on, Monday May 17.

Our Junior girls displayed perseverance, team work and athletic skill when playing Lilydale Heights, Healesville High School and Upper Yarra Secondary College.

Our team consisted of girls who play competitive football on the weekends and beginners.  I commend them on how well they did on a very cold Autumn day.

Lani dominated in the ruck, Lexi was extremely confident and fast in the midfield, Tobi and Charlotte kicked some great goals, but our MVP must go to Harmony of 8I.  Her run, effort and attack on the ball really helped our team to score.

Congratulations and thank you to all students who played footy, I look forward to seeing you join the team next year.

Intermediate / Senior Girls Football

On Monday May 17, the Intermediate and Senior Girls AFL teams competed against Upper Yarra and Healesville (Intermediate) and Lilydale Heights (Senior).  Both teams displayed amazing skill, teamwork and sportsmanship.

The Intermediate Girls won their first game against Upper Yarra in a dominant display. At halftime, the girls were up by 75 points! Upper Yarra never stopped competing, but despite their best efforts, the girls were far too strong.

The second game was against Healesville, who were pretty strong in their game against Upper Yarra as well. After a steady start to the game, the girls managed to kick a few quick goals to give themselves a strong lead at half time. Like the first game against Upper Yarra, the second half saw our opponents come out and put up an admirable contest however, once again the LHS girls stood up to the challenge and proved to be too good for Healesville.

For both games, every player on the team contributed to our outstanding performances.

MVP of the day was Tahlee Steele who always looked dangerous whenever the ball was in her hands.  She was highly impressive up forward kicking 5 goals in the first game! Special mentions to Holly Habenschuss, Jess Syswerda, Katie Wilson and Keely White.

The Senior Girls team only had the one game to play. Credit to Lilydale Heights for putting a team on the park and never giving up the contest.

Amelie Moore worked well in the ruck, supported by Jessica Hoskin, Lexi Habenschuss and Scarlett Potter in the midfield. These four proved to be too much for the Height’s midfield, who failed to stop the girls getting first use of the ball and delivering it into our forward line.  They were aided by Jaz Hood, Anastasia Slattery and Hannah Bigham, who were rotating through the wings.

Our half back line of Sophie Mastaing, Danielle Fletcher and Charlotte Green were the perfect rebound wall, that helped propel the ball forward whenever the Heights tried to move into their forward half.

Our forwards were outstanding throughout the whole game! Natasha Dekker was the perfect target for our mids to kick to, taking some great marks and kicking a goal or two. The standout forward was Kayla Villarreal who kicked an amazing 10 goals! Almost all of her goals were on the run after breaking and dodging several tackles!

The Senior Girls was bolstered by players who were fairly new to the sport, but these girls did not shy away from the contest when it was their turn! They also were best off the field with their singing on the bus trip back to school!

All in all it was a great team effort by the whole group! MVP was Kayla Villarreal who was untouchable all day!

I can’t wait to see how both these teams go in the next round! Well done everyone!

Basketball Championships

On Thursday 20 May, the Year 9/10 EIS Basketball students competed in the Victorian College Championships (VCC) at Nunawading Basketball Stadium.

Students competed hard all day, playing some great basketball.

The boys A team and B1 team were unlucky to miss the finals getting beaten on the buzzer, for both teams to knock them out.

Well done to all students for a great day!
