This week we are celebrating Education Week. The theme of Education Week for 2021 is ‘Building Connections’. The theme celebrates the connections between schools and local communities and strengthens bonds with families and carers.
Education Week at NMPS is an opportunity for parents and carers to visit the school to engage with their child’s learning. Please see below for the range of open events we have running in each year level throughout the week (as published on Compass). We look forward to welcoming you into the classrooms!
These events will go ahead with COVID Safe principles in place as outlined below unless we receive further advice during the week.
We are required to abide by our COVID Safe principles.
Prep
The Prep team welcomes parents into their classrooms to see some of their Term 2 learning. The doors will be open on Friday 28th from 8:45 – 9:15 for your child to show off their latest work.
Year 1
As part of the term two learning within Intercultural capabilities, the Year Ones will be sharing their reflection of the cultures explored during their incursion, as well as their own family culture and traditions.
During Education Week, on Tuesday 25th May, parents and carers are invited to explore the wonderful work and cultural reflections of your child’s class. Doors will be open from 3:00pm until 3:20 pm.
This event was postponed and will be rescheduled for later in the week.
Year 2
This term, as part of the Year 2 Geography unit, students have been exploring different countries around the world. They have each chosen a country to undertake a small research project on.
Next Friday, as part of Education Week, the Year 2 team would like to invite parents into the classroom to share some of this learning students have done. Classrooms will be open from 2:45 pm on Friday 28th May for parents to drop in and see student geography work if they would like to.
Year 3
The Year 3 team would like to invite parents to come and view their learning during Education Week. They will be doing a lesson focussing on Indigenous History as part of the History unit this term. The Year 3 team invites you to come and participate in the lesson with the students. They will be opening the classrooms on Wednesday 25th May from 9-10 am.
This event was postponed and will be rescheduled for later in the week.
The Year 3 team would also like to invite any parents to come into the classroom and share their experiences with the class at another time during the week. It might be sharing what you do for work, personal travel experiences, or any other life advice! It doesn't need to be a long presentation, it could be as simple as reading the class a favourite book from your collection, showing them how to play a simple game, or maybe sharing a craft activity. If you can spare some time that week, please contact your child's teacher.
Year 4
As part of the Education Week celebrations, the Year 4 team would like to invite you into the FLEX & Lower Cloud to see what your children have been working on. On Friday the 28th from 2:00 - 3:00 both learning spaces will be open for you to come and view the science presentations that students have been working on. If you are available during this time, it would be fantastic to see you at school.
The Year 4 team will also make the presentations available on Seesaw so families who can't make it to the open classroom will still be able to view the presentations.
Year 5
The Year 5 team is delighted to invite you to attend the Grade 5 Natural Disasters Inventors Expo as part of ‘Education Week’ on Friday the 28th of May. Students will be presenting their inventions, designed to help humans survive a chosen natural disaster, between 1:50 pm – 2:50 pm.
Year 6
The Year 6 students are currently participating in the school’s cooking program. As part of Education Week, the Year 6 team invites the families of our Year 6 students to join us in helping prepare (and eat) a delicious meal.
Every day, education support staff work to keep our school running, support our students to learn, and our teachers to teach. On 16 May it was ESP Day, which is a day where we celebrate our hardworking ES staff. As 16 May fell on a Sunday this year, at NMPS we will celebrate our ES staff on Thursday 27th May at a whole school assembly at 3:10 pm. We appreciate all the hard work our ES staff do, and we thank them for their commitment and dedication to NMPS.
This event will be held inclusively for staff and students only due to the current COVID restrictions
Thank you to Ann M, Meena, Mandy, Gen, Sonia, Benn, Connor, Hugo, and Dancia who work with our students in classrooms and during recess and lunchtimes every day.
Thank you to our administration team - Sandra, Kate, Anne W, and Craig who make sure the school is functioning on a day-to-day basis.
Thank you to Nurse Jen for caring for all our students and staff.
Thank you to Kristen, Erin, Tess, and Alice who ensure our students have a great time in the kitchen, garden, and library.
There will be no assembly on Friday due to this special occasion.
Prep students will have their individual photographs taken on Wednesday 2nd June. These photos will be used for our internal system, Compass. If you have any questions or concerns about the photo day, please see your child’s teacher ASAP. Our official photo day for the whole school will be held in Term 4. More information regarding these photographs will be shared closer to the date.
