Excursions & Incursions

Year 1 Light and Sound Incursion and Open Afternoon

The Year Ones have had a busy couple of weeks doing some very engaging and fun-filled activities to finish off our science-based Unit of Inquiry-Light. Some of the highlights included the Light and Sound incursion, making a model of something that uses light in a purposeful way and having parents visit the classroom on Open Afternoon to view the terrific work that was completed in this unit.

Please see below what our parents had to say about the Year 1 Book Week Classroom reading sessions:

Thank you so much for having me visit the class to read yesterday. It was so enjoyable and it is so lovely to see what a beautiful class they are.

It is really these moments that as a parent we cherish.

Year 1 Students participating in the Light and Sound Incursion

The Light and Sound incursion provided a variety of hands-on experiences aimed at finding out some of the properties of light, such as being transparent, translucent and opaque.  The children also explored how sound travels and made simple musical instruments, such as a cardboard guitar.

To conclude our unit on Light, the students designed and constructed some wonderful models of light sources. The room was a hive of activity during the construction process with students having to problem-solve, use their creativity, and make independent decisions. All the students were very proud of their finished models and excited to show their work and share what they had learnt with the parents and family members who visited on Open Afternoon.

Year 2 Excursion to CERES Environment Park

On Tuesday the 1st of August, Year Two students went to CERES to learn all about water and how it connects to the environment. We caught water bugs using nets, made mini habitats, learned about food, shelter and water within ecosystems, role-played the water cycle and even tasted some plants from the garden.

Thank you to the wonderful parent helpers who helped the day to run smoothly.

Thank you!
