Assistant Principal's Report

Georgia Despotellis

There have certainly been many opportunities for our families and our community to come in and see the great teaching and learning programs on offer at our school and to see how our school operates. Our community calendar on our website (under the Notices tab) is the best place to ensure that you note all of the dates of any special events coming up at our school, as well as Rohan’s and my reports in the Newsletter, throughout the newsletter in general and of course, Compass.

It is important to note that although we would love for every parent to attend every event, we are also realistic and understand that this is just not practical. We do prepare the students to understand that it is not possible to have every parent in attendance at every event and we do have a plan in place for those students who would not have a parent with them. We are hoping, by organising the many opportunities that we have over the term and year, that parents will be able to attend at least one or two (more would be fantastic). Please note that we also welcome grandparents and other significant adults in our students lives, so please pass on any invitations.

We had our Open Morning on Wednesday 9th August. This term we also included a school tour at 9.30am. As a special preview to our School Concert 'A Night Among the Stars', we had the School Choir and Orchestra perform. What an amazing job they did! They sounded beautiful and I know that they were so happy to be given the opportunity to perform and excitedly prepared for this event in the weeks leading up to it. I would like to thank Ms Molloy for all her work in preparing the students, especially as she is so busy with concert organisations and preparations this term.

2023 Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey (PCGOS)

WE WANT OUR PARENTS/CAREGIVERS/GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

All families are invited to participate in the survey.

The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey will be open from Monday 7 August to Friday 8 September 2023.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

The survey results will be communicated to parents/caregivers/guardians through the newsletter. Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.

Celebrations

If you haven’t already seen this beautiful display opposite the office area, please do make the time to have a look. These Year 2s paintings were inspired by the famous Claude Monet. Thank you to our fabulous Year 2 artists and to our amazing Visual Arts teacher Mrs Pappas.

I walked into a Year 4 classroom during the week, and nobody noticed, not even the teacher! They were all so busy, engaged and focussed on solving a challenging coding lesson using our newly purchased Lego. Well done Year 4A and well done to our talented STEM teacher, Ms Patel.

Student Safety

I would like to remind our families that the school grounds are supervised from 8.45am in the morning and up to 3.45pm afterschool every day. We have noticed that some children are being dropped off before school, before the 8.45am time. We ask that if you need to drop your chid/ren off to school prior to this time, that you enrol them into TeamKids.

Please note that dogs, even dogs on leads, are not permitted on the school grounds.

I thank everyone for their attention to the above matters.

I hope everyone has been busy working on their Music Concert, Program Cover. Entries were due to Mrs Pappas today. I cannot wait to see all the posters on display and to find out about the winning entries!
