Enrolments are open for free 3 and 4 year old sessional kindergarten. 

Enrol through Casey Council for Hillsmeade Kindergarten. 

Long Day Care enrolments with kindergarten is through the ELC office.

Apply now to enrol your child in Foundation (Prep) for 2024

The Department of Education has released a new statewide timeline for enrolling in Foundation (Prep) for the 2024 school year.

If you have a child starting primary school in 2024, it’s time to enrol. Make sure to submit your enrolment application now.

If you are enrolling the sibling of a student at our school for Foundation in 2024, and both children will be attending our school at the same time, your child is prioritised for a place at our school as per the department’s Placement Policy.

 

What is happening in the ELC

Our Learning

Reading 
  • Introduction of Stimulability Character Cards – using a song and focusing on specific sounds such as “Shy sheepy, Shy sheepy, sh, sh, sh” and “Dirty dog, Dirty dog, Dirty dog, D, D D” 
  • Expressing how stories and messages can be told through storytelling (small worlds – Goldilocks and The 3 Bears, Tidalick The Frog, 3 Little Pigs, Wombat Stew and We're Going  On A Bear Hunt) 
  • Using Arthur puppet to learn mouth formation when developing sounds. 
  • Reading predictable/ well known texts for children to read along and finish texts. 
Writing  
  • Continuing writing letters of the alphabet using the visual aid ‘Tommy Turtle’, which supports the children in developing an understanding of where to start each of the letters and the direction to follow in forming these. 
  • Provocations at the drawing table; letters, Indigenous symbols and name cards. 
  • Whiteboards and markers. 
STEM 
  • Exploring magnets, building an understanding of concepts such as repeal and attract. 
  • For the children to develop an understanding of linking number names, numerals and quantities up to 10. 
  • Continue exploring symbols; connecting lines on bottle top lids.
Inquiry 
  • Continued to explore our Unit of Inquiry, One World, Many Stories, focusing through stories, we can explore our imagination and experience different cultures.  
  • Developing an understanding that stories convey meaning and reflect upon experiences in own lives. (‘The Empty Pot’) 
Social & Emotional Learning 
  • Building upon strategies and tools for the Zones of Regulation. 
  • Exploring their emotions as they place photographs of themselves on the Zones of Regulation Charts. 
  • Relaxation time while listening to music, reading a book or meditation/yoga.

Children plant trees in recognition of National Tree Day
Children develop literacy skills through small worlds (We’re going on a bear hunt)
Children resource their own learning through the use of technologies.
Children explore numeracy concepts such as measurement and matching numerals with quantities and written number forms.
Children develop fine motor skills through drawing and painting.
Children develop turn taking skills, collaboration, and gross motor skills through a game of tunnel ball.
