YOUR VOICE IS IMPORTANT TO US!

WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CAREGIVERS / GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT YOU THINK!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents / caregivers / guardians think of our school. The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. 

 All families are invited to participate in the survey. The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open from Monday 7 August to Friday 8 September 2023.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

I have recently been in touch with PSW our school uniform supplier regarding the availability of uniform items, including the new style polos.  I have been assured that the short and long sleeve mesh panel polos are currently on a ship and will be arriving into the warehouse on 7/8 and will be in the Officer store by the end of the week 11/8.

NAPLAN

Recently the NAPLAN results were published for all students in years 3, 5,7 & 9 across Australia. Here at Hillsmeade we are so proud of our student's achievements and congratulate you all for your outstanding results.

In the coming weeks/months we will be analysing our schools' data and utilising this to assist in planning for further development in our teaching and learning practices at Hillsmeade. We have so much to celebrate, and I look forward to sharing this with you in forthcoming newsletters.

Please don't forget to pick up your child's NAPLAN results from the school office.

CURRICULUM DAY

On Tuesday 1st August staff were involved in our Term 3 Curriculum Day with the focus "We Love Maths". We spent the entire day working through both the George Booker approach and Victorian Curriculum, to plan for the implementation of best practice in the teaching of mathematics at Hillsmeade PS. We delved deep into creating a consistent approach in learning sequences, vocabulary, explicit teaching and developing a wide range of engaging activities for the classroom. The staff Maths Olympiad was also quite the fun experience, with teams competing in a variety of activities including Sudoko challenges, pattern puzzles, The Price Is Right, directional activities and the Minties challenge. Our day was a balance of fun, building staff collaboration and dedication to the ongoing improvement of mathematics.

I just wanted to reach out to the community and say thank you to everyone for your kind words and support as we navigated through a very sad time recently. It was very clear we have a wonderful community here at Hillsmeade and to see everyone rally around the Prep students and families was wonderful. Your kind thoughts and gestures were gratefully received.
