Assistant Principal Curriculum and Instruction

My first term as APC&I has certainly flown by! It has been such a rewarding experience and I am looking forward to continuing this role in Semester 2.

I started this term teaching teachers! During our staff development day, all teachers explored the new Mathematics Syllabuses in depth, which supports our focus on developing numeracy skills. K-2 teachers have already started implementing the K-2 English and Mathematics Syllabuses with the 3-6 versions being implemented next year. During the day teachers got busy being students; cutting, pasting, ordering and sequencing, and brainstorming ideas - they even had to complete an online escape room! It was a great opportunity to work together and collaborate with colleagues from different stages to develop our knowledge and skills of the syllabus and how this is translated in the classroom.

I have continued this term working with Stage 2 and 3 teachers and students to develop reading fluency skills. This term, students will be identifying fluency goals, reading in pairs and giving each other direct feedback for improvement which they will track.

Over the next two weeks, I will be meeting with assistant principals and teachers to analyse our Semester 1 data. This will help inform support for literacy and numeracy. I’m looking forward to continuing to work collaboratively with staff and students across the school.
