Dear Parents, Students and Community,
Welcome back to Term 3! I hope everyone had a lovely holiday break and are ready for another great term together. It was wonderful to see the smiling faces of students as they returned to school last week.
In Term 1, students in Year 3 and Year 5 completed their NAPLAN assessment. All students who participated in NAPLAN will receive an individual report of their results, which will be sent home with students this week.
The report provides general information about the assessments, your child’s result in each assessment area, as well as information about national averages. From this year, results are classified into one of 4 proficiency levels: Exceeding, Strong, Developing and Needs additional support.
This is just one assessment opportunity for your child to demonstrate their abilities within the areas of literacy and numeracy. If you require any further information or have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.
Last week we held our whole school NAIDOC celebrations, a wonderful opportunity for our students and school community to come together to learn, celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Thank you to our community who were able to join us for some of our activities on Wednesday, including our picnic lunch and assembly. If you weren’t able to join us, make sure you check out our school Facebook, for just some of the highlights.
The success of our week is due to the dedication and partnership we have with our Aboriginal parent group, who meet regularly to provide support and guidance to our staff.
A huge thank you to Uncle Richard Campbell and Emmaly Davis, from Gumarraa, and our very own community members, Jason Wilkins, Maiquilla Brown, Dru-Ann Ingram and Kiara Ingram for sharing their time, knowledge and culture with our school community. Your support of our school and students is greatly appreciated.
Next week our school will celebrate Education Week 2023. This year’s theme is 175 years of public education in NSW and focuses on learning from our past, celebrating our achievements and embracing the future with confidence.
Parents and carers are invited to our whole school celebrations, on Wednesday 2 August, beginning with an assembly showcasing performances from across our school, open classrooms, a picnic lunch, and the Book Fair.
In addition, when shopping at Stockland Shellharbour, look out for our school’s 'masterpiece' on a surfboard, telling a story of our school's history. Thank you to Ms Higgins and our talented group of artists for completing this project to showcase our school.
This week, our Learning Support Team hosted an afternoon tea for parents and carers of children with diverse needs, such as health, cognitive, behavioural or social/emotional needs. This group will meet twice a term to come together to share information, support one another and make connections. As we know, parenting is a tough gig, but having a child with additional needs, can bring unique joys and different challenges. If you would like to be involved, please phone the office so we can be sure information is shared with you.
Do you know of any future OFPS students, who reside in our local area? If so, remind them to get in touch with our school so we can support with enrolment and begin our transition process.
Kind regards
Jodi Niedermayer
