Catholic Identity
PRAYER
Our Year 6s are currently researching Saints of the Catholic Church, to help them discern what saint’s name to take in Confirmation. Each day the church commemorates the lives of various saints. This is known as their Feast Day. Each saint is a Patron of various causes, often associated with things they did in their life that helped them to grow closer to God. Today, the 1st August is the Feast Day of Saint Alphonsus Liguori.
Alphonsus Liguori, was born in 1696 in Naples, Italy. He was the oldest of seven children and was known as a child prodigy, earning a doctorate in law by the age of 16. Later as a priest he became a bishop and was also a famous writer, musician and theologian.
Many of us will be familiar with one of St Alphonsus’ prayers, from our time during lockdown attending Mass Online:
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there, and unite myself wholly to You.
CONFIRMATION SINGERS
A group of Year 3 and 4 students have been hard at work preparing to sing at our Confirmation Mass. Last week they had a session with the musician who will be accompanying them on the night of the celebration. Carmen was very impressed with the talent of the group.
JULY COMMUNITY MASS
On Saturday 22nd July we celebrated our July Community Mass at the Parish church in Werribee. Thank you to the families who attended this celebration and to all those who did a special job. Pictured below are all those students who were present, receiving a blessed Holy Card of St John the Apostle, from Fr Huy .
COMMUNITY MASS COMMITTEE
With the recommencement of Community Masses, the Parish is looking for parents who would like to join a Mass organising committee for St John the Apostle’s Community Masses. This committee will work with Kemp Vinson the Parish’s new Pastoral Worker. We will be holding the St John’s Community Masses on the fourth Sunday of every month, in the School Hall. This is a great opportunity for families to be involved in the faith development of their children, while supporting the Parish in a meaningful way.
