School Wide Positive Behaviour
DPS are implementing a new framework that is called SWPBS. School-wide positive behaviour support (SWPBS) is a framework that assists schools to improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for children and young people. |
Key Features: · Staff and students use a common language to discuss behaviour. · Clearly define a set of expected behaviours. · A school-wide plan is developed to ensure behavioural expectations are taught to all students by all staff. This is known as the school matrix. · School-wide systems are developed to reinforce expected behaviours from all members of the school community. |
Benefits: · Increased respectful and positive behaviour. · Increased time focused on instruction. · Improved social- emotional wellbeing. · Increased adoption of evidence-based instructional practices. |
What does it look like: · Students will be explicitly taught behaviours from our DPS matrix · When students are identified practicing these expected behaviours, teachers will give them a wristband. · They will take off the wristband and get a hole punched in their punch card (housed in the classroom with their teacher) · Once students have collected 10 holes in their punch card, they will go the office and contribute a star to the jar. This is a whole school reward System and the whole school will be working towards some sort of reward (chosen by students). |
