Biology Excursion

On Thursday 7th of September, the Year 11 Biology cohort headed to Melbourne Zoo for a fantastic day observing a great variety of different wildlife from around the world.

Students went to the Zoo in order to observe how animals adapt to different environments, and what evolutionary traits have arisen to enable their survival and reproduction. Students focussed particularly on Southern Corroboree Frogs (pictured, but not to scale!), and how their survival is threatened by a variety of different factors. We also conducted observational research into the colour preferences of different butterflies with coloured nectar feeders.

In our Biology cohort, we hope all students don’t just learn about the content, but truly gain an appreciation for the wonder of the natural world. We hope that this passion grows and extends to educating others, and ensuring that we play our part as global citizens in protecting our natural ecosystems.

The students conducted themselves brilliantly, the weather cooperated, and a fantastic day was had by all!

We look forward to doing it with our next cohort in 2024,

Mr Marinelli, Ms Arnold, and Mrs Macdonald
