Science Space Incursion
On Friday 25th August our year 7 science students experienced the Science Discovery Dome which treated us to 3D visuals of marvels in space. This tied in with our space curriculum at year 7 and provided an opportunity to reinforce the content that we had been learning.
Our venture into the space began with moving through the airlock, which the students found hilarious.
Inside the students were then instructed to lay or sit underneath the night sky and were then treated to a close look at different constellations and how they move across the sky, the rotation of the Earth and Moon and revolution of the planets around the Sun.
We then investigated the tilt of the Earth, which is 23.5 degrees, and how it creates the seasons. This was followed by an explanation of how the gravitational force of the moon creates the tides experienced on Earth.
The session finished with a chance for students to ask questions of our space expert. Overall the students learned a lot and even the teachers discovered things they’d never heard before!
