CFA Visit

On Tuesday we were very fortunate to be visited by representatives from the CFA including some of the local Raywood CFA members. Our students learnt all about what causes a fire, the fire triangle, what to do in a home fire emergency and about the new fire danger ratings. The highlight was visiting the truck and being able to use the hose.

Thank you very much to Jo Guthrie and the Raywood CFA members for coming to visit us.

News from the Year Prep-Two Room

The Junior Class have been busy in their Writing Sessions and presented their information reports to the Senior Kids and staff last week. The P/1/2 Students worked through each stage of the Writing Process - planning, drafting, revising, editing and finally publishing their reports; and boy were they proud of themselves when they had the finished products in their hands.

News from the Year 3-6 Room

In the 3-6 room Maths is much more than just timetables and worksheets. Our kids have been working extremely hard on problem solving and representing their mathematical thinking in a variety of ways that model 'real-world' situations.

MARC News

Don't forget that we are inviting all students and staff to come along to school dressed as a book character for Book Week. Our dress up and activity day is Thursday August 31st- so you still have plenty of time to imagine, organise and/or create a costume. We will host a parade at 9am and we welcome any spectators that might wish to come along.

This week in MARC we continued our Shadow Judging. We read, Where the Lyrebird Lives and Bev and Kev.

We shared what we know about lyrebirds; where they live, what they look like, their unique

ability to mimic sounds. Students created a rubbed leaf background to hide their lyrebird feathers on. We also watched a David Attenborough clip showing a lyrebird mimicking sounds including a car alarm and a chainsaw!

Bev and Kev is a beautiful story about an unlikely friendship between a giraffe and a bird. Students drew animals from the story onto giraffe spots for our Bev display.

We have one last book to read and respond to before all students cast their vote for their favourite book!

Art News

To coincide with out new playground being installed, students were able to showcase their recently acquired papercraft skills to make their "Ultimate Playground".

We also used our paper and constructions skills to make some Ned Kelly styled puppets, aligning beautifully with our Integrated Studies Units this term on Early Australia.
