We Want Our Parents and Carers to Tell Us What You Think.

Principal's Report

Welcome back to Term 3, and I hope all families and students had a restful break. Staff and students have hit the ground running, with many students already engaged in co-curricular activities, sports, debating, cadets, and many other events.

Term 3 is a significant time in the planning for the college, and this is when we commence the process of looking towards 2024. I am thrilled to share with our community that our Course Counselling sessions held over the past weeks have been a resounding success, thanks to the collaborative efforts of our Course Counsellors, committed parents and carers and most importantly our aspirational students. Our primary goal is always to engage and empower students to make well-informed decisions about their academic paths, taking into account their interests, strengths and aspirations. The feedback from both students and parents and carers so far has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the invaluable support and guidance provided by staff. We look forward to the next stage in the course selection process.

It takes courage and bravery to perform in public. Whether it be speaking, singing, acting, or performing, our students throughout the year continue to demonstrate maturity, creativity, and aspiration. In a few weeks, the cast and crew hit the stage to perform GREASE under the expert guidance of Ms Anne Corry, Ms Lindy Mumme and Ms Culvenor. Our students have been preparing for many months and they would love to see as many of our college community come along to support and celebrate their achievements and efforts. Tickets are available via our website, and we look forward to seeing you there.

NAPLAN results for our Year 7 and Year 9 students have recently been released.  This year, there are changes to the way in which results are reported. These changes are introduced nationally by the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA). NAPLAN will continue to measure student achievement in numeracy, reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation but the results will now be presented in 4 proficiency levels:

They are:

  • Exceeding
  • Strong
  • Developing
  • Needs Additional Support.

This change will provide our parents and carers with clearer information that details student achievement against new proficiency levels. The report will continue to show how students are tracking against their peers and provide an indication of their skill levels against national averages. I would like to remind students and families, that while NAPLAN results are an important milestone, they are only a snapshot of the journey of a young person and definitely do not define them, but rather inform and hopefully empower them.

Our college is conducting a survey to find out what parents and carers think of our school. The Parent and Carer Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist us in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement.

The survey is optional, but we encourage all families to participate. Our college will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. All families are invited to participate in the survey.

The Parent and Carer Opinion Survey will be open from Monday 7 August to Friday 8 September 2023. The survey will be online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages.

We will inform our community of the survey results through annual reporting and our newsletter when they become available and please contact the college if you would like more information.

Thank you for your support of the college and we look forward to our continued partnerships, working together to empower, inspire and elevate the potential of our young women.
