Positive Climate for Learning

Premier’s Reading Challenge – Inspiring future authors

At Armstrong Creek School, we are committed to exposing our students to quality picture storybooks and meaningful texts.

As students begin to appreciate a wide variety of stories, they understand the skills good authors use and the craft that comes with good writing.

To best support the connection between reading and writing, we are excited to share that students in Prep to Year 2 are currently participating in the Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge during learning time at school.

Homegroups are competing against each other to read the most books before the end of term 3. Many of our Year 1 students have already finished 25 stories so far this term!

Although reading and writing are vital to learning, a key purpose of the Premier’s Reading Challenge is to build an awareness that these skills can be enjoyed as pleasurable past times. We hope this experience inspires our students to read and write for both learning and enjoyment.

We look forward to awarding our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students with a certificate of participation in term 4. Please look out for more information to come.

Year 2 Author’s Workshop

Each week, a selected group of excited Year 2 authors come together to extend their writing skills. To challenge their writing fluency, students use a fascinating picture prompt and respond with as many complete sentences as possible in just three minutes! Currently, most students are already writing four detailed sentences. Amazing!

Book Week 2023

We are excited to celebrate Book Week between Monday 21st to Friday 25th of August. The theme of ‘Read, Grow, Inspire’ released by the Children’s Book Council of Australia connects to our school purpose of all students achieving their personal best.

Please look out for more information to come.

Pyjama Day – June 23rd 2023

To celebrate the end of term 2 and to raise money for State Schools’ Relief, students and learning adults pulled on their comfiest pyjamas to wear to school. Across our community, $681.70 was collected. Thank you kindly for your generosity.

State Schools’ Relief is a not-for-profit organisation that improves the lives of tens of thousands of disadvantaged Victorian students, and their families, each year. The Organisation provides government school students with new uniforms, footwear and educational resources, including learning devices. They work side by side with all Victorian primary, secondary, specialist and language schools to ensure that any students facing hardship have the necessary items they require for school.
