Grade 5/6 Futsal

Last week 42 grade 5/6 students represented the school at the Football Victoria Futsal championships. The 3 boy's teams were competitive throughout the day with team Toorak Magic finishing 5th overall. The girl's team the Toorak Trains made it to the grand final after a Sumaya goal with 40 seconds to go in the semi-final. They went on to lose the grand final 2-0. Everyone had a great day and all students walked away with some prizes from the day.

Lunchtime Clubs

Art: (Alison)

Each week we start Art Club with a different theme or idea.  Students can then decide how they want to create their artwork.  Themes

covered to date include fairy tale characters,

native animals, sun and light for the German

festival and designing a Lego character.

Garden: (Jen)

Students from across prep to grade six have been attending Garden Club on Wednesday at lunchtimes. Run by the Green Team, it is an opportunity for students to work with others and hone their gardening skills!

Minecraft Club: (Luke)

On Mondays and Fridays, a group of keen, tech-savvy students from Year 3-6 assemble in the main building and gain access to some game-based learning through ‘Minecraft Education’. Students have the opportunity to collaborate on projects with classmates in multiplayer mode and personalise their game features. ‘Minecraft: Education Edition’ is a game- based learning platform that builds STEM skills, unleashes creativity and engages students in collaboration and problem-solving. The students who attend are always excited, respectful and supportive of one another and appreciate the opportunity for some inside, online play time.

Mindfulness: (Sara)

Every Tuesday, we have been running a mindfulness club in the library. We have activities set up such as mindful drawing with lots of different and new designs each week. We have been making origami fish, butterflies, hearts, tigers and cranes. We also have a station set up with building blocks for students to play with quietly. We’ve had students from all year levels join in with some taking the lead and teaching other students origami that they have now mastered.

Peer Mediator Program

"Being a peer mediator is an incredible role that we have. It is amazing getting to help solve little problems in the playground, helping little kids. We get to take on loads of responsibilities out in the playground helping out with friendship problems." -Alice & Simran 6A

"Peer Mediation has been a wonderful opportunity to not only help others, but also a learning experience for acting on our feet out in the yard. We figured out how to solve different problems and hand them over to a teacher if needed. It was an amazing time we have had being a role model for the entire school and getting to display the school values." - Saatiya & Kye 6B

Anti Bullying Week

During National Bullying and Violence Prevention Week (14th -20th August) TPS students participated in some lessons to revisit bullying. The purpose was to raise awareness that violence in any form is not acceptable within the community. Please see some work samples below from students in Years 3-6.

Trivia Night

Parents and staff had a great time at the annual TPS Trivia Night on Friday 18 August at the Malvern Town Hall. The first prize went to the 'Preppy McPreppy Face' team, and the wooden spoon went to... well, you know who you are (not the staff this year!) Congratulations also to Anastasia Chessum, with the fastest hands on the evening, winning the paper, rock, scissors competition.

Thank you to Pat Saporito for donating two tasty food hampers and Toorak Basketball Club for donating backpacks and Boomer's jerseys for the raffle.

Thank you to all the helpers who made the cleanup easier on the night and thank you to Alicia Hanneberry, Elisha Saporito, Alicia Brown, Jade Saunders and Sandra O'Neil for organising the event. This Trivia Night next year will be run by the 2024 Grade 5 parents.

SWPBS Snapshot

At Toorak Primary our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) Behaviour Matrix provides positively stated expected behaviours which help to support and build a positive learning climate and school culture. Our Term 3 learning focus has been teaching Responsibility. In classrooms, students have been practising taught behavioural and social skills which are expected across various areas of our school community. As teachers, we acknowledge students by providing verbal and tangible praise when we notice them making positive choices which reflect the matrix.

Please see our SWPBS Behaviour Matrix below.
