As I write today, I have just finished participating in the Book Week dress up parade. It was amazing to see the outstanding effort of all the students and parents in creating fabulous characters from their favourite book or in keeping with the theme ‘Read Grow Inspire’.  Prizes (Books) were handed out for creative costumes in every year level; I only wish we had more prizes as there were many creative costumes! It was terrific to see the many parents, families, and friends who attended the special assembly – it was a big community turnout for this fun event! This week is one of my personal favourites as we build a love of literature within our own children and the students at our school.

Yesterday, our wonderful community participation was again on display with our Literacy open morning. We had over two hundred parents join us in the hall for an overview of our approach to reading, and then parents were able to view, in classrooms, our school’s reading program. Whilst roaming through classrooms and welcoming parents, I saw many instances of fluency pairs, automatic word recognition, literacy games, and students showing how proud they are to share their learnings with their families. Thank-you for sharing this journey with us. We know that parent involvement in schools is found to be positively associated with a child’s academic performance and it is also great for their wellbeing!

Where is that school hat? Sunsmart Reminder

For those students who have lost their school hat or for those students new to the school, now is the time to prepare for wearing a school hat to school every day. From Thursday 1st September our school hat should be always worn when students are outside, when at school

We want our parents/caregivers/guardians to tell us what they think!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. We encourage all families to participate in this survey. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. Last year we used the survey results to plan for next steps for the following years Annual Implementation Plan.

A fabulous night of Trivia and Connection

Last Friday night a large number of parents organised a wonderful community night - the annual trivia night. A big thank-you to Alicia Hanneberry (Zoe and Sam), Alicia Brown (Henry), Elisha Saporito (Juliette), Jade Saunders (Lenny and Sammy) and Sandra O'Neil (Imogen) for organising the event.  It was a great opportunity to connect and reconnect, and at the same time raise some money for our ground's improvement plans. It was a fabulous night of entertainment and community building.

Kind regards,

Sharon Wildermuth
