Network Maintenance

Network Service Interruptions at Wolaroi and PLC

The School has been experiencing some network problems since the commencement of Term 1 and we would like to provide families with an update on plans to resolve these problems.

We have categorised this into two main issues, as detailed below:

Issue 1: Network dropouts for both wired and wireless users. This is happening sporadically and lasting for 30-90 seconds.

Issue 2: Laptop cannot connect to Wi-Fi. (Moving access point and or restarting the Laptop can fix this but not always. The temporary work-around for this is to take the device to another room join the Wi-Fi and come back.)

To correct these problems, the ICT team will undertake school-wide network maintenance starting from 12:30am Thursday 10 February until 8:30am Monday 14 February.

This maintenance work will address the systemic network switch configuration issues that have been identified. While undertaking this network maintenance we expect staff and students may experience disruptions to wireless and wired network connectivity.  These may appear as dropouts or loss of connectivity and could last up to 15 minutes at a time. Unfortunately the works must be undertaken during school hours as the problems are more evident when the network is under load.

Continuity of Teaching and Learning

So that teaching and learning is not impacted over this period, teachers will prepare flexible lesson options in case classes are unable to access online resources. Students will also be set homework that can be completed without access to the internet to ensure that boarders are still able to complete their work.

We sincerely apologise for these disruptions and thank you for your patience as we work to return our network to normal function.
