All of these students put a tremendous amount of effort into their applications last year and really considered their roles as leaders and what they can offer the school. I know that they will all be great role models for our younger students and will work diligently to make our school even better. Cam and I look forward to working with them all and supporting the development of their leadership skills.

AGPS Fete!

Our fete is fast approaching (only 6 weeks to go!) and we are getting very excited for the event. Our last fete in 2018 was a wonderful event for the whole community and this event promises to be even bigger and better. Please make sure you pencil the 2nd of April into your diaries and come down to be part of all the fun. We would love to see as many people there as possible.

An event like this can only happen when there are dedicated and hard-working people volunteering their time behind the scenes. I joined the fete committee meeting last week and was able to hear the progress of planning and could not have been more impressed with the efforts of all those people dedicating their time to make this event as successful as possible. I am so grateful and appreciative of the work that they are doing and I encourage you all to show your appreciation by supporting the event in any way that you can.

More details about the fete and how you can help is found on the Parents and Friends page of this newsletter.

Planning Week

This week was planning week for each of our Professional Learning Teams (PLTs). Each team was released from the classroom for a day to partake in their planning day.

Planning days are dedicated to the work of our teams and their focus on student learning. PLTs engage in student data analysis to inform their planning for the term ahead. Teachers work collaboratively to plan engaging, targeted learning experiences for their students. They may also undertake professional learning together, based on their shared goals for their teaching practice and student learning.

Meet & Greet

Our annual Meet and Greet is scheduled for next Wednesday 23rd February from 3:30-7:00pm for grades 1-6. This is an opportunity to meet your child's teacher so that we can build a strong home-school partnership.

The Meet and Greet session is not a Parent/Teacher interview. Teachers will not be reporting on your child's progress at this time. The purpose of this meeting is to provide an opportunity for parents to share important information about their children and to get to know the teacher. Formal Parent/Teacher interviews will be held mid-year and you are able to arrange times to meet with your child's teacher as needed to discuss any concerns or to find out about your child's progress.

Please book your Meet and Greet session time via Compass by selecting the Conferences tab in the side menu. This Meet and Greet will be held via Webex. We will send out details for the Webex meetings early next week.

Parent Information Sessions

Supporting Literacy at Home

Amy is hosting an upcoming parent information session for our prep parents. The session will focus on supporting children with early reading development and provided a range of supportive strategies that parents can use with their child at home.

The session is on Wednesday, March 2. There are two session times available, 3:30-4:30pm and 5:00-6:00pm.

Register your attendance here: https://forms.gle/BQ9DQ2pXRiaHSndU8

2023 Prep Information Night

We also have our 2023 prep information session coming up on the 30th of March. If you know anyone that has a child that will begin prep in 2023 please ask them to register their interest in attending here https://forms.gle/REG8J4MKkpy7EXVE9 or through our office. Details of the event can be found on our website or via our Facebook page.

Dogs on School Grounds

A reminder that dogs are not permitted on the school grounds as per our policy. We thank you for your support with this.

Late Arrivals/Early Departures

I would like to strongly reinforce the importance of students attending school and being present and ready to learn by 9:00am every day. Our classes begin right on 9:00am (music plays at 8:50am to give students time to get ready) so we can maximise the learning time we have at school. When students arrive late, they miss the important whole class instruction period and are therefore missing key concepts, modelling and information that is vital to their learning.

We also understand that there are times when early departures cannot be avoided. In these cases, we would appreciate it if you could pick your child/ren up at either 11:00, 11:30, 1:30, 2:15 as picking up during instruction times causes disruption to the whole class. We thank you for your support with this.

C.S.E.F. - Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund

The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund helps eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps and sporting activities.

If you have a valid means-tested concession card, such as a Veterans Affairs Gold Card, Centrelink Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible.

Payment amounts this year are $125 for eligible primary school students. Payments are made direct to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions and sporting activities for the benefit of your child.

Please give a copy of your Health Care Card to the office or email me a copy of your card to: altona.green.ps@education.vic.gov.au

Thank you all for a great fortnight. I hope you all have a restful and relaxing weekend.

Take care,

David
