BEST WISHES TO OUR SWIM TEAM!

We wish our 27 Swim team members all the very best for a great day of swimming at Oakleigh pool this Monday.  Our team will compete in their respective age groups against students from eight other Dendy District schools.  It’s been wonderful to see the effort and enthusiasm of the swimmers at our x2 early morning swim training this week!  Many thanks to the staff and parents for enabling this opportunity for our swimmers to happen.  Thank you to Mr Anderson, Miss Gourley and Sue Humble for taking the students by bus on Monday.

REMINDERS:  Swim Team members MUST be at school by 8.15am for a prompt 8.25am departure by bus.

WHOLE SCHOOL EVENT

We are excited to have only 1 month to go until our Whole School Inter-House Athletics carnival.  All students from Prep to Year 6 students will attend in this carnival, participating in a variety of track and field events at the newly refurbished Sandringham Athletics Track in Hampton.  All students are encouraged to dress in their St. Finbar’s House colour, with House points awarded for student’s athletic efforts over the day.  A Perpetual Winning House shield is awarded to the winning House with the most accumulated points at the end of the day.

Prep to Year 2 students will participate in a variety of formal and novelty athletics events over their half-day carnival, whilst our Year 3-6 students participate in numerous track and field events over the whole day.

The Operoo permission and information email will be sent out next week with all relevant details about this event.

PARENT HELPERS required for both JUNIOR & SENIOR CARNIVALS:

We love the support from many of our parents on this day, so please lock this date into your diaries now.  The Parent Helper sign up link will be within the Operoo permission email coming out next week.

A great day on court for Levi & Jackson

Last Friday two of our Year 6 boys represented our school at the Dendy FAST-4 tennis tournament at St. Patrick’s Murrumbeena Tennis courts.  Congratulations goes to both Jackson C and Levi G, who by all accounts played some fantastic tennis over the day during their round-robin matches.  Levi came away winning three of his six matches, narrowly missing out on a semi-final opportunity, whilst Jackson won four of his six round-robin games in his half of the draw.  Both boys are to be congratulated on their game etiquette displayed over the tournament also.   Many thanks goes to both mums’; Amanda and Caitlin, for taking the boys to and from the event and supporting them over the day.

2022 SSV State Team Trials: process of nomination

Every year, extremely talented school students have the opportunity to trial for a place in a School Sport Victoria (SSV) Team Vic state team and participate in annual School Sport Australia (SSA) Championships. These trials are strictly for senior students currently competing at an extremely high LEVEL in their chosen sport. An example of this for AFL football would be that they have won or come Runner-Up the SMJFL (League) Best and Fairest for 12 year olds. Having come Best and Fairest at team or even club level will not be sufficient.

*Sports included in this current trials process: AFL football, Netball, Basketball, Basketball, and Football (Soccer).  There are other opportunities in other sports, such as Swimming, Diving, Cricket, Tennis & more : please refer to the SSV website for other sport trial details.

Trails are NOT  ‘Come ‘n’ Try’ opportunities. They are a process for selecting a Team Vic State Team to represent the state at School Sport Australia Championships.

Please note that participation in SSV team Vic state teams is self-funded, so families will be required to pay costs of administration levies, uniform, flights, accommodation and meals (approx $2,500-$3,000).  *For further information on each sport, please visit:  www.ssv.vic.edu.au/team-vic

IMPORTANT:  to NOMINATE a child, parents (not students) must first-seek approval from our St. Finbar’s Sport Coordinator (Tania Thompson), including evidence of achievement at an extremely high level. St. Finbar’s requests a letter or email written by the child’s coach outlining the student’s outstanding skill level and achievements.  We encourage only students of a Year 5 or Year 6 level to consider these trials if they fall into this elite sports category.  This must be given to the Sport Coordinator by 21st February, 2022.

If approved for nomination by the school, parents then:

- Complete online nomination form

- Submit the non-refundable online payment

- Have Principal sign the nomination form

*Online nominations (www.ssv.vic.edu.au/team-vic) close by Tuesday 1st March, 2022 (or unless stated differently online).  Late entries will not be accepted under any circumstances.
