Loving the Library @ MSC

A warm welcome to all of our new staff and students!

This year we have started with a great feel to our environment, continuing with our focus on creating a supportive and comfortable space for individual growth and learning at MSC. All year 7 – 12 students start the year with a Library Connect session to become acquainted with the library for their first borrowing session.

Student Library Assistant Program

Students can volunteer in the Student Library Assistant Program and have the opportunity to become part of the library team. This gives them an opportunity to gain work experience and learn new skills whilst they get to meet new people, take on responsibility, preview new books, and help with displays and promotions. Students’ progress through a module booklet. Upon successful completion of the program students receive acknowledgement in the school newsletter, get invited to attend a Student Library Assistant morning tea, receive a Student Library Assistant Program Certificate and get awarded with a Student Library Assistant badge.

Bookmark Making

Bookmark making in the library during lunch is happening again! This term it will be on Thursdays. This gives students a chance to connect with each other, whilst having the opportunity to discuss different topics as they create masterpieces.   Some of these great works are now on display in the Library. Art supplies are provided for students.

We continue to add our collection with new releases, curriculum-based topics and staff/student requests.  Students can approach one of our team at any time for support in the library. The library is open before and after school. At recess and lunchtime the space is open for schoolwork, study or independent reading.  Students may borrow 4 items on a fortnightly basis and are able to re-borrow if required.  Students may request new items for the library by seeing a member of the library team and adding their request to the shopping list.

Adele will be briefing all students on how best to access our online platform as part of the library connect sessions. We continue to collaborate with Melton City Libraries to extend the online services offered to our students.

We are very happy to continue supporting senior students in the Year 12 independent Quiet Study Room located in the library.

Welcome to our new part-time Technician Harley Macdonald. Harley brings a wealth of knowledge to our library team with experience at Melton City Libraries, Victoria University Library and University High School library.

We look forward to another prosperous year at MSC in the Library.
