Covid Update

Over the past weeks we have needed to replace teachers as they have needed to be tested and isolate due to COVID  regulations. This has had an impact on classrooms as we have had difficulty employing replacement teachers due to a state wide shortage of relief staff.

So as we move to the last week of term your child may be working in different classrooms as we may not be able to replace their classroom teacher.

Reports/Parent Teacher Interview Opportunities

End of year reports will be sent out through Sentral on Monday afternoon. We are providing the opportunity for families to have an end of year parent-teacher interview next Tuesday night. If you would like this opportunity, please make contact with your teacher via SENTRAL to set up an appropriate time. Each interview will have a 10 minute limit, if you are needing more time with your child’s teacher, you will need to make another arrangement.

Homegroup Teachers in 2022

In 2022, your child will have two homegroup teachers, a Spanish and an English teacher. At the start of each day, teachers will run ‘Circle Time/Ready for Learning’ sessions in the morning as a whole or may decide to make smaller groups depending on the need and/or focus. The students will work in two groups during literacy ensuring students are learning the Victorian Curriculum in both languages. These groups will be fluid and decided by the teachers. Our Inquiry and Maths program will remain in the same structure, where both homegroups are learning together in Spanish and English. Parent Teacher Interviews in 2022 will have both of your child’s teachers present allowing families to have a stronger understanding of the learning that is happening in both languages. Families will continue to contact their child’s teacher via Sentral. The message will be sent to both teachers. A response will be returned by one of your child’s homegroup teachers.

Out Of School Hours Update

This week we were officially notified that our service can as of 2022 provide up to 105 spaces for students in both the Before Care or Aftercare program. We hope this news has alleviated any stress for the families needing access to OOSHC.

Rhonda will be processing current applications and new applications.

Emergency services at the school

Yesterday we had a local environment incident where we needed to access external services to aid some children who were suffering respiratory stress. The rest of the school was not in any danger and were all indoors at the time. We understand the source was from a neighbouring resident burning wood in their backyard.

Multi-Age Response

I have provided a response to the community regarding the 2022 structure and the reasoning behind this approach at Newlands.

Transition Day

Yesterday our 2022 Foundation Day went off successfully. It was great to see so many happy new faces mixed among our 2022 Year One students. The transition for those students into the 2- 6 classes also went well.

Thankyou to the members of the PFA and Luke who set up refreshments for our new parents.

SENTRAL

This week we did experience some issues with the platform going down for several days, causing significant disruption to communications. The platform is up and running as normal.

Second-hand Uniforms

We still have a number of clothing items available for sale. These will go on sale before school on Tuesday 14th December.
