Dates to Remember:

  • Tuesday 14th September- CERES Farming our Future Virtual Workshop
  • Friday 17th September- Last day of Term 3

Reminders:

High Frequency Words

Across this term, teachers have been providing students with an individualised list of high frequency words to practise each week. These lists were put together from Term 2 assessment data. In week 10 of Term 3, we ask students to go back over their previous lists and ensure they feel confident with reading each word at automatic recall. These lists can be found on Seesaw under the ‘Goals’ folder.

Please see here for a guide on how to access this folder on Seesaw

The benchmark for the end of Term 3 in Grade Prep is automatic recall of between 30 and 100 words. Students are also expected to spell up to 30 high frequency words. Should you have any concerns or have trouble locating your child’s previous lists, please email your child’s class teacher.

CERES Farming our Future Workshop

This workshop has been on our schedule for a long time, but has unfortunately been impacted by each of the lockdowns. We are excited to bring the workshop to the children on virtual basis this Tuesday 14th September from 9am-10:15am.

Students will join expert educators and explore the concepts of organic urban gardening. They will discover where food comes from and how organic food systems connect to a healthy self, community and planet, and investigate the wondrous relationship between bees, bugs and soil. CERES educators will guide students through problem solving and action planning to create change within their school community and explore solutions to increase local food production at school or home.

Through this interactive virtual workshop students will:

  • Find out where food comes from
  • Discover the wonderful world of bees, bugs and healthy soil
  • Learn about plant lifecycles and how to grow and care for plant

Note that this workshop will take place through Miss Makayla’s Webex, as all virtual events this term. Please see below for details:

Due to the length of this event, the workshop will also take the place of Tuesday’s Literacy lesson. This will ensure students get an adequate break from the screen.

Thank you!

Finally a huge thank you to all families for your support and resilience this term. It is certainly not the term that we expected and there is no doubt that our youngest students do require additional support to maintain focus and complete learning tasks. We are so appreciative of your patience. You have modelled enthusiasm and a positive mindset for your children and it has gone great lengths to help them to remain engaged with their learning. With just one week of Term 3 to go, we hope you can look forward to a well-deserved rest during the upcoming holidays.

Grade 1

Reminders:

We would love students to have a break from their screens over the holidays after a term online. These are some activities they could continue with minimal screen time:

Mathseeds: Students are able to continue playing one lesson of Mathseeds a week in the holidays if they choose.

Holiday Reading: Please encourage your child to continue to read at least 4 times a week during the holidays. We are seeing some great reading progress in Grade 1 and would love all children to keep practicing!

Grade 2

Reminders:

Thank you to all Grade 2 families for supporting the students this term with remote learning. We are so grateful for you and wish you a safe and happy school holiday break.

If your child would like to, they can continue to complete 1 lesson of Mathseeds a week in the holidays and home reading.
