LIBRARY NEWS

This Week in the Library...

Welcome to Week 5, it’s hard to believe we’re nearly halfway through the term already. This week all classes are continuing to explore some of the 2021 Books of the Year and preparing to choose their favourites to see if we agree with the judges who announce the winners in Book Week (week 7).

This week K-2 will be laughing along to ‘We Love You, Magoo’ by Briony Stewart (who doesn’t love a good dog book?), while primary will be exploring ‘book hooks’ from the older reader category and reviewing books from the Early Childhood book category. Last week primary classes finished reading books from the Picture Book category. There were a variety of books chosen by classes as their favourite but the tip is either ‘How To Make a Bird’ or ‘Your Birthday Was the Best’. Time will tell if we can pick the winner (or not).

Book Week Parade

On Wednesday, 25th August (Week 7), our biannual Book Week Parade will be held. Students are asked to come to school dressed as their favourite book character and participate in a parade so they can share their love of books with other students. This year the parade is open to all students from K-10 and our guest judges will be looking for the most creative costumes, not the most expensive or elaborate ones. Prizes will be given for all Stages and photographs of the event will be posted onto the school’s Facebook page.

If you’re like me and stuck for ideas (with no creativity either!) then head over to the ‘Children’s Books Daily’ website where Teacher-Librarian and blogger, Megan Daley has some fantastic information and ideas about costumes for Book Week. Have fun!

Premier’s Reading Challenge - NEW END DATE & MORE FREE CHOICE BOOKS ALLOWED

Due to the current school lockdowns around NSW, the PRC has been extended by two weeks and students can now read up to 10 free choice books. The new closing date is Friday, 3rd September so keep reading! Once you’ve completed the challenge, don’t forget to print your Reading Log and return it to me in the library for validation.

Here are just some of this week’s students who have completed the Challenge. A couple of our secondary students were a little ‘too cool for school’ to get their photo taken but they’ve done a great job also! Well done, everyone!

Book Fair Thank You!

A big thank you to all of our families who supported the Book Fair, we received a generous commission that we will be using to purchase new books and resources for the school. I apologise for any unnecessary rubbers, pencils, notebooks, sharpeners or posters that have gone home, students just love them. Many good books were sold too, I promise!  Pictured here are the very last purchasers at the Book Fair, Miriama and Sekove.

Library Services

Did you know that by being a part of our Holy Trinity School family, your child has access to a number of library services they can use at home. Some of these include Storybox Library, World Book Web, SORA, Clickview and Oliver (the library’s database).

The best place to access these is here, this is the library’s website that has easy to find icons that take you directly to these services. Most will require your student to login with their school username and password (their class teacher has these, I don’t).  SORA and Storybox library in particular have excellent books for your student to read or listen to and I encourage you to have a go at using these. If you have any questions about these, please let me know at school or via invlibrary@arm.catholic.edu.au .

A few happy photos of what has happened in the library over the last week.

Happy reading,

Mrs Toni Fraser
