Week 3 Term 3

Dear Parents and carers,

I hope you are all managing during this fifth lockdown. As frustrating as it may be, we need to be kind to ourselves, our families and do the best that we can.

Grandparents' day

I hope you all managed to tune into our Facebook Whole School Prayer and assembly last Friday. It was such a great Prayer organised by Year 5/6OS . The prayer was a tribute to all our amazing grandparents, for all the wisdom, love and care they bring to their grandchildren. We hope that later in the year we can celebrate with our grandparents at school with some prayer, fun and activity.  Please take a moment to watch last weeks prayer especially the video tribute it was very special.

Remote Learning

Thank you for your support in ensuring that your children were online on Monday ready to begin Remote Learning. We are so pleased that every student connected online with their teacher and their peers, which is crucial for both their learning and wellbeing. As usual, if you are experiencing any difficulty please email your child’s teacher or one of the school leaders and they will return call/email you as soon as they are able.

Date or event changes

As frustrating as it is, some events have been postponed until we have further clarification if lockdown will cease or continue. Fingers crossed we get the announcement we are all hoping for on Tuesday.   We understand the frustration this causes and the stress it adds for everyone, but we have little choice.

Parents and Friends

At St Fidelis, we are so fortunate to have such a dedicated group of parents in our Parents and Friends committee led by Josie Servello and Tara Soares. This dedicated group met via Zoom last week to continue to explore ways they can provide fundraising and social activities for our community in a COVID safe environment. Their positivity, enthusiasm and dedication needs a HUGE Shout Out.  All funds raised goes directly to resources, equipment for your children (as outlined in the newsletter dated 22/3/2021). It's a committee like this that connects COMMUNITY and brings all families TOGETHER. Thank you again.

Wellbeing

In anticipation of returning onsite, the wellbeing of your children will be our number one priority. Our Wellbeing and Learning & Teaching Leaders are working on a plan to ensure the students have a smooth transition back to school. Further details will be provided once we have more information of our return to school. We encourage all parents to monitor their children and to make the necessary adjustments based on their specific need. Please reach out to your child’s teachers for further advice or assistance.

Parent Teacher Conversation - Feedback from families.

Thank you to all the families who responded to the Google form and gave us feedback about St Fidelis’ Reports and Parent Teacher Conversations (2021). Feedback from parents who completed the form was positive in all areas of learning. Parent Teacher Conversations were successful because:

  • Families felt that the teachers encouraged a two-way conversation and that the experience was a positive one.
  • Families were given the opportunity to ask questions and teachers were able to provide parents with strategies for their child's learning.
  • The responses also showed that reports were easy to understand and the report format told families how their child was progressing and that they had an accurate picture of their child’s development.
  • The responses also indicated that parents strongly agreed that they were provided with relevant information regarding their child’s progress.
  • Suggestions were also made for further improvements, which will be considered, by the leadership team and the staff.

Parent Teacher Conversations will continue at St Fidelis. In the future, we will also be providing opportunities for students to discuss their learning and goals with their families and showcase their learning. Thank you to the families who took the time to complete this short survey.

Letter from the Premier Daniel Andrews

During the second 2020 Lockdown, the students of 1/2VC decided they wanted to write to the Premier about their thoughts and their hopes about the lockdown and returning to school to learn and see their friends.  They wrote letters and decorated cards telling the Premier to keep us all safe and hoping things would get back to normal soon.

In July this year we received the following letter from the Premier thanking you for your kind words.

Thank you to the following students for writing to the Premier: Benjamin, Joseph, Estelle, Max, Christian, Zita, Monte, Jacob, Gemma, Savannah, Violet, Joseph, Scarlett, Patrick, Eliana, Xavier, Mia, Anthony, Ava and Selena.
