Magis report

Planning for the Magis Camp at Point Walter on 13 & 14 August now being finalised, and final forms will go out to parents next week. A record number – 37 students – will be attending the camp, including five Year 9 Magis committee who will take a key leadership role with the Talent Show and Quiz. In addition, outstanding Year 12 Magis leaders Skye McMillan and Bella Pether will deliver keynote addresses. David Castellelani from Alpha Motivation and Kathy Boyatzis from Creative Edge Thinking are running exciting workshops for participants. The colourful program booklet will be emailed to parents several days before the camp starts.
This week the final Academic Challenge in the House Championship starts with Years 11 and 12 on Wednesday attempting the language-literature section. Also this week the second make-up round in WADL Debating will feature the John XXIII Years 11 and 12 teams competing against each other in an impromptu debate at Shenton College on Tuesday evening whilst Novice Team 3 takes on MLC Team 4. Good luck to all debaters.
There have been many excellent entries in the John XXIII Creative Writing Competition (short stories) , particularly from Years 12, 7, 8 and 9. Judges will begin deliberating next week, and this process will take about two weeks as three judges will adjudicate each year group.
Finally, the World Scholar’s Cup due to be held in week 5 has been postponed. Students will be informed as soon as a new date has been set. This is likely to be in term 4.
