COVID Safe update and reminder about face masks travelling to and from school on buses.

Dear Maffra SC families, The Victorian Government has announced that additional COVIDSafe measures will be in place in metropolitan Melbourne. Metropolitan Melbourne consists of the following Local Government Areas (LGAs): Banyule, Bayside, Boroondara, Brimbank, Cardinia, Casey, Darebin, Frankston, Glen Eira, Greater Dandenong, Hobsons Bay, Hume, Kingston, Knox, Manningham, Maribyrnong, Maroondah, Melbourne, Melton, Monash, Moonee Valley, Moreland, Mornington Peninsula, Nillumbik, Port Phillip, Stonnington, Whitehorse, Whittlesea, Wyndham, Yarra, Yarra Ranges. Whilst these changes apply to metropolitan Melbourne please be aware of the requirements for our community.

In Regional Victoria:

  • Individuals aged 12 years and over (inclusive of staff, students, and visitors) must always carry a face mask – unless a lawful exception applies.
  • Face masks are mandatory for people aged 12 years and older on public transport and when in taxis or ride share vehicles or touring vehicles.
  • This includes travelling to and from school on public transport.
  • Schools will remain open with the current restrictions that are in place. There are no changes to existing density rules. Visitors and parents continue to be welcome at our school but must also observe face mask requirements. School camps and excursions in both metropolitan and regional Victoria can continue if face mask requirements are followed. These measures are aimed at giving health authorities the best opportunity to stop the spread of the virus in our community. Thank you for your understanding and support as we continue to implement COVIDSafe practices at our school.

2022 Handbooks have been uploaded to compass and the website. Families and students need to read this information in preparation for 2022 subject selection and payment of high cost electives prior to the end of term 3.

Parents & Friends Committee

Maffra Secondary College is extremely fortunate to be well supported by a small but vibrant group of parents.

Parents & Friends Committee meets once a month and is open to any parent wishing to have a greater involvement in their child’s secondary schooling. The committee has two core focuses – fundraising to support the purchase of key learning resources and supporting families in times of need. Parents Committee also play a major role in organising the annual Debutante Ball, guided by an appointed teacher - Carol Caffery, who coordinates the event each year.

All parents are encouraged to consider joining the committee. The Parents Club meet on the first Monday of each month (at the Maffra Community Sports Club due to COVID) excluding public and school holidays. This is a very informal setting with the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer attending. Usually the Principal or Assistant Principal also comes along and any parents that join us. You don't have to be on the committee to be part of the P&F.  Everyone is welcome. We appreciate everyone is busy and your time is valuable so we like to keep meetings brief. Past members have the annual fundraising events well organised for ease in the future. There really isn't too much involved. Aside from meetings we generally have one fundraiser each term. In recent years these have included ;Debutante Ball, Greyhounds Race Night, Wood Raffle and Cake Stalls.

More information can be obtained by contacting the school on (03) 5147 1790, or the Parents Committee President, Sandra Dekkers, email sandradekkers@bigpond.com

Next meeting Monday 6th September at 5.30 pm. For more details contact Sandra.
