School Council News

The Maffra Secondary College School Council held its term 3 meeting on Tuesday the 3rd of August, this time via video-conferencing due to Covid restrictions. This was a regular school council meeting (which college community members may also attend) and followed the regular agenda.

Discussed at this meeting were:

  • Continuing to look into options for students not on a bus route to Maffra.
  • Student leadership processes at the college and student agency/voice.
  • The proposal for a mural to brighten up the college and engage students in considering environmental issues.
  • Preparations for the upcoming review scheduled for term 4 of this year.
  • Updating policies in preparation for this upcoming four-year review.

Subcommittee reports were also tabled, as well as excursions, which were scrutinised for compliance and any required actions. The ongoing Covid considerations are requiring extra flexibility, and school council appreciates the efforts of teachers to facilitate these important learning opportunities.

This time of year also brings student, parent and teacher surveys. These are vital for understanding family and community engagement with the college. The ‘Parent Opinion Survey’ is now available, and we would like to encourage as many parents to complete this as possible. Rumour is that students who bring these back may even get a little prize. Please consider!

School Council is the representative body of the college community, with students, parents, staff and community members all represented. Strong participation by all stakeholders ensures strong directions, and we encourage all members of the college community to consider being involved. The next meeting is scheduled for September 7th at 5:30, please speak with any member of the School Council if you would like to attend and contribute to this important forum.

We are also still looking for a few more parents to fill vacancies on School Council. We meet twice a term on a Tuesday night, so please contact the school or speak with any member if you would like any further information.
