Halo semuanya!

What a busy week in the Discovery Centre! After settling back into onsite school last week, we delved into a range of fun activities throughout the week.

In Writing, we continued to practise our recount writing with lots of fun prompts. Since the 5/6 students (“the big kids”) were on camp we decided to be super sneaky and visit the Senior Playground for a play. We had to make sure we were super-secret ninjas so Mrs Streitberger didn’t catch us, then enjoyed some time exploring the “big kids” playground. Once we finished playing, we snuck back to our classrooms and wrote about our adventures playing on the senior playground. We focused on giving extra detail in our writing, explaining what we played on, who we played with and what it looked like.

In Reading, students were happy to be able to participate in Reading Groups once again where they were engaged activities such as Reading Eggs, Listening Post, reading with their teacher and exploring the Problem and Solution of a story.

Maths found us getting very hands on when exploring Mass throughout the week. We began the week by practising hefting with our hands and used key words to determine what objects were heavier and lighter. Students found that sometimes we couldn’t decide what objects were heavier or lighter by just using our hands to heft and we needed something else to help us find our answer. Students then were able to explore using balance scales to explore Mass and decide which objects were heavier and lighter by watching which object moved down and which object moved up on the scale. Students were so excited through this exploration, they moved to trying to balance our scales and found what group of objects could balance out each side of the scale, which we discussed was when both sides of the balance scales were at the same level and were equal.

We were very excited to be jumping into our PMP activities. Although our parent helpers weren’t able to join us we had so much fun completing new activities that Mrs Embery had planned for us to practise our crawling, kicking, hand-eye coordination and throwing. A favourite activity for the session was the tunnel station where students crawled through three different types of twisting tunnels.

A highlight from our week was all of our Production practise, we have been working very hard to practise our songs, dances and lines. Although we won’t be able to perform to our families this week, we are so excited for our families to watch our performances through video. Remember to keep practising at home!

We hope everyone has a wonderful week,

Miss Tossell, Miss Dawson and Miss Henwood

Pupil of the Week

FD: Glenn P -

For working hard in reading groups this week. You did a great job finding Magic 100 Words and reading the repeated pattern in the book. Super work Glenn!

FH: Clara M -

For demonstrating curiosity and a love of learning during maths this week. You practised using hefting and the balance scales to compare objects and decide which was lighter and which was heavier. Amazing job Clara!

FJ: Nimrat M -

For working hard to use key words in Maths to explain what object is heavier and lighter. You showed a love of learning to use both your hands to heft and the balance scales to determine the Mass of objects. Well done Nimrat!
