Selamat siang!

What a wonderful, fun week we had. It has been wonderful to see the students so enthusiastic about returning to school and quickly returning back to their classroom routines.

In Writing, we have been focusing on writing procedural texts that include clear and easy to understand instructions. Students have created texts that explain how to complete their morning routine including steps such as making their bed and eating breakfast. We even made delicious, colourful fairy bread. Students had so much fun spreading butter, sprinkling sprinkles and cutting bread into halves or quarters. You can ask your child about the ingredients, equipment and steps they need to make fairy bread.

In Literacy, students read and interpreted a range of procedural texts including recipes and paper craft instructions. It was wonderful to see the students using their strength of creativity and perseverance to create their own paper hat utilizing both written and picture instructions. We discussed why it is important to give clear and detailed instructions as well as include pictures to show the reader what to do or what something should look like.

In Maths, students continued to build their addition and subtractions skills by building numbers and calculating the value of a small collection of coins. Students added numbers together to build a larger number, or even worked backwards to work out the numbers that were added together to create the number.

Last week in Guided Inquiry, students reused recyclable materials to create something new. We used old cereal boxes, paper towel rolls, plastic punnets, water bottles and foam strips to create new items such as robots, money boxes, pencil holders, picture frames, a lamp and even Hedwig from Harry Potter. Over the school holidays, you could even use your recycling to create something new.

We have also been working hard to practise our Junior School Production. It has been wonderful to see the students' enthusiasm while singing and dancing. While we won’t be able to perform the production in front of our families, we look forward to being filmed to be able to share the production at home via video.

We hope you have a fantastic week!

Calling All Scientists!

Dear Parents/Carers,

In Term Three, students in the Inquiry Centre will be focusing on the topic “Science All Around Us”. Throughout this unit, we will be exploring a range of different scientific areas, including biology, chemistry, geology etc.

We would love to invite parents/carers or members of our MPRPS community who have expertise in any area of Science to come and share briefly with our students in their classes.

If you would like to be part of this, please send an Sentral message to your child’s class teacher with the area of Science that you would be able to share about and if there are particular days/times that would suit you best to either Zoom in or come to visit. We will then be in contact to chat about the details and provide further information!

Kind regards,

The Inquiry Centre Team
