Selamat siang!

Can you believe we have almost made it through half of the 2021 school year? The 3/4 students continue to demonstrate a love of learning and perseverance to complete their learning tasks. They worked hard to settle back into a routine after the Queen’s Birthday long weekend and the disruptions from the past few weeks due to the lockdown. We look forward to enjoying our last week together before what we hope to be a relaxing school holiday break.

Last week in Writing, students continued to practise the structure and stages of Informative Writing. We conducted note-taking to make a plan of the various topics and key information needed for their reports. Did you know that Pleasant Snacks started in 2014? This is one of the many facts that have been researched for our Mount Pleasant Road Primary School information reports. The 3/4 classes came up with a classification of MPRPS, which students used to inform their introduction. Following their introductions, students used their dot point research to expand on their ideas and begin creating their topic paragraphs.

In Reading, students have been creating summaries of various texts by describing the main ideas and using supporting details to clarify, prove or explain the main idea. We practised this reading strategy using texts educating us on the history and culture of First Nations People.

In Mathematics, students have been testing the likelihood of outcomes occurring by conducting chance and probability experiments throughout the week. We started off by predicting and testing the outcomes when rolling a 6-sided dice, playing ‘paper, scissors, rock’, and when flipping two coins. At the end of the week, students modified their own chance experiment, making predictions and testing the outcomes along the way! It was great to see students using the data they collected about all the possible outcomes to inform their predictions, describing whether outcomes were “likely” or “unlikely”.

During Guided Inquiry, students have constructed their own ‘triorama’ detailing the habitat of their chosen native Australian animal. They planned out their design to begin the design process and worked with their peers to support the build of the triorama. They used recycled materials, school resources and natural supplies from the yard and look so realistic! Keep an eye on Seesaw to receive a sneak peek of the creations that will be coming home very soon!

We wish you all a safe and healthy school holidays!

Pupil of the Week

3/4D - Monica T

Well done on using your strength of bravery to help your friends work through challenging social situations. Magnificent work Monica!

3/4G: Dyuthi D -

For working hard to identify the chance of different outcomes in an experiment. You used keywords and organised thinking to show your work. Delightful, Dyuthi!

3/4K: Hayley H -

For demonstrating your understanding of chance when creating your probability investigation. You explained the outcomes and reasons why each outcome might or might not happen. Hooray, Hayley!

3/4M: Alita N-

For demonstrating a love of learning when writing your information report about MPRPS last week. You included interesting facts in your introduction to hook the reader. Amazing, Alita!

3/4O: Viraj S -

For demonstrating a love of learning and bravery as you worked to edit our MPRPS information report. You focused on carefully editing our introduction to engage our target audience and inform rather than persuade. Verbose Viraj!

3/4R: Samantha K -

For demonstrating a love of learning when creating your own chance and probability experiment. It was fantastic to see you using critical thinking by reflecting on your outcomes and their likelihood to influence your predictions. Spectacular, Samantha! :)
